A record that stretches the boundaries, ‘UTOPIA’ feels like his finest hour.

American Songwriter

UTOPIA sees Scott stay true to his style, his preferences, and his principles, going against the grain of the tendencies in the viral-hungry world that is 2023 rap.

The Texan auteur might have had a bumpy start to the 2020s, but his fourth album sees him doing what he does best.
80
AllMusic
The multi-platinum guest features might set the album up for global conquest, but the most exciting moments come when it sounds like Scott is discovering a new way to push his craft forward.
70
Slant Magazine
The album operates less as a cohesive body of work and more as a series of show-stopping set pieces.

The Needle Drop

Travis offers some dark and diverse ear candy on Utopia.

68
Paste
The blockbuster production doesn’t mask the fact that Scott doesn’t have a lot to say on this album.
60
NME

The Houston rapper's first album since 2018 teases a brave new sonic world, but has little to say about what might happen if we get there.

57
Pitchfork
In an attempt to give the world a true blockbuster rap album, the Houston rapper delivers a shiny, empty spectacle loaded with pop superstars who rarely make an impact.

HipHopDX

'Utopia' is more boring than Travis Scott.

40
The Guardian

Scott hasn’t managed to rid himself of his tendency to imitate or outright crib from other artists; the best moments of Utopia find him ceding space entirely to other musicians, a troubling state of affairs for any pop A-lister.

I still don't really like Travis as a person, but he made it really easy to forget about all of that with this album. Possibly his most ambitious yet. A wild, dark, and ethereal ride.

Alright, before I start this review I want to get something off my chest that's been pissing me off more & more each week:

I'm so fucking sick and tired of seeing the "Her Loss" joke being made on this site for a lot of new releases on Fridays; it comes off as nothing more than a pathetic attempt to fish for high amounts of likes with the laziest of effort, and it fucking annoys me as someone who loves to write long or decently detailed reviews that have effort put into them ... read more

Alright let’s do a real review, none of this “her loss” BS.

Travis Scott, arguably the largest trap artist of our day, has finally come out with his long awaited album Utopia. With over five years of hype over his shoulders, it’s quite obvious that the chance of disappointing people. People get skewed ideas of what they want the album to be, expecting the high calibers reached with Rodeo, the catchiness of Astroworld, and the… whatever people want from Birds In ... read more

Not the biggest travis fan, but woah this is good. More experimental for him than usual. First half of the album got me excited, but the 2nd half falls short for me, especially "kpop" lmao.
