David Bowie - Low
100

bowie finally sheds the façade and presents a stark view of the future; his own future.
this was finally the record that made me a FAN of bowie's. it's unbelievable just how fresh this sounds to this day, how you can hear how it formed the blueprint for so many different musicians and artists down the line, and more importantly, how an album this introspective and deeply personal can be his most relatable work yet.
and my god, the second half of the record is gorgeous. i can't and WILL ... read more

Burial - Untrue
100

this shit carried me throughout the latter half of my high school years. its not overly complex; quite the opposite really, reveling the simple hypnotic loops. but it's truly the atmosphere this record carries that makes it hold such a special place amongst ambient records. it feels like being a lone ghost in a seemingly abandoned industrial dystopia. like everything around you is constantly shifting and operating purely for the sake of retaining a routine. like you're walking home 4 miles out ... read more

Young Fathers - Heavy Heavy

what a surprisingly great listen!

i've had ZERO experience with this group, to the point where it causes me to wonder why they weren't on my radar before. having seen the eyegrabbing cover, i immediately had to listen. the album has this overall warm, fuzzy aura encompassing it all that really does a great job in unifying all these unruly ideas together. from the moment it started to the end, i was glued to the music.

2023 is shaping up to be a great year for music!

Mac DeMarco - Five Easy Hot Dogs
50

its fine background noise, i guess.

Pierce The Veil - Pass The Nirvana
90

they changed the mix from the single to the album. honestly, the single version is far superior. i dont know why they polished away all the raw edges that gave it the chunky sound we got here but it's concerning for how the album is going to pan out.

aside from that though, dope ass song

Lil Yachty - Let's Start Here.
88

an INSANE reinvention that also serves as the natural evolution of the sound he broke out with; this shit is god damn GOOD.

Deftones - Gore
55

simultaneously overstuffed with too many ideas and severely lacking in any interesting ones, a lot of the material that composes the album either feels like half-baked leftovers from prior records or occasionally really off putting genre-fusions. on top of that the mix isn't great either. i do love the wacked out psychedelic edge a lot of the songs go for, heading in more prog rock directions in how they evolve; but they just never paid off as well you'd hope.

Kenny Mason - RUFFS
42

yeaaaah idk. a lot of the songs near the beginning feel underdeveloped and his vocal approach often sounds way to similar to his contemporaries. i've always been a big fan of how kenny mason is willing to mesh the sounds of hard rock/punk into a melodic trap sound but a lot of the times, the instrumentals just sound too cheap to sound as dope as they could theoretically come across.
im still interested in kenny mason as an artist, but i just wish he would fully recognize his ambitions with his ... read more

BROCKHAMPTON - The Family
96

after 5 years of listening to BROCKHAMPTON, the release of these two albums feels like the perfect send-off. what this album represents in my eyes paired with the off-the-wall energy displayed throughout the project culminates into one of my favorite expressions of identity and the dangers of it being lost to the industry; being released as a way for their last group effort to be released independently just being the cherry on top.

Deftones - Around the Fur
92

it was peak nu-metal. it still is! how do you have a 6 song run as perfect as this album does from My Own Summer to Be Quiet and Drive Away!

Deftones - White Pony
100

perfection. every song stands alone as a representation of the best hard rock has to offer and comes together as a fuller experience that transcends the genre conventions imposed by their contemporaries.

god, passenger is incredible.

95

sometimes rivals White Pony as my personal favorite, SNW leans more in an atmospheric direction with the shoegaze influence making for a entrancing listen. yes even pink cellphone.

Deftones - Diamond Eyes
96

i was initially underwhelmed, but in repeat listens, the stripped back sound makes for some of their most addictive songs in their catalogue
edit: 90 -> 96
yep its crack

after several repeat listens, its undeniable: the replay value, the individual songs, how it all comes together. this album has one of the most tightly assembled tracklists ive ever seen! with a perfect balance of highs and lows, a consistent driving energy that never relents nor tires. its a perfect release in my eyes.

Disturbed - The Sickness
18

yknow for as much shit as korn got during the influx of nu metal, i think disturbed is the far worse example of the genre. the lyrics here are laughably bad with some of the whackest instrumentals. mild nostalgia at play here but this shit deserves to be left behind, my god.

nu metal scatting lolz

Quadeca - I Didn't Mean to Haunt You
88

the sound can be a bit offputting initially, especially outside the context of the record but when taken as a full picture, Quadeca's latest body of work is extremely focused and lush in it's sonic approach; with a tightly knit tracklist that makes for memorable tunes and soundscapes to drown in.

David Bowie - Never Let Me Down
34

wow this is baaaad. all the creativity of his former releases is just gone. and the instrumentation is hideously overdone, it becomes grating. i only hope it gets better from here.

Gorillaz - Humanz
73

lotta nostalgia influencing my opinion here i won't lie. a lot of the songs here suck, plain and simple. but the overall atmosphere of listening to the record is still a pretty good experience. frontloaded with their best songs tho (except strobelite, which i've heard too many times to ever enjoy)
