Another electropop album taking AOTY by storm?! I definitely didn’t dislike this or anything, and it wasn’t without its highlights, but for the most part, this is just pretty unadventurous. All I could think for the majority of this album was “hasn’t Charli already done this?”. Like I said, there’s some exceptions across this tracklist, but much of this album felt pretty uninspired, for lack of a better term. Honestly, I think we may have reached a point ... read more
There are certainly some tracks to be cut here and some mildly unsatisfying transitional moments, but for the most part, the intricately layered instrumentation and impassioned performances makes this a very enjoyable project.
Something about Bladee’s raw vocals and the spacious production makes for an oddly entrancing experience.
Loser throws a transphobic temper tantrum over literally nothing ๐ญ
This album is at its best when it sticks to alternative hip hop. Enjoyable overall but im really not crazy about the singing or rock/synth pop inspired tracks on here.
While some pretty immature songwriting and instrumentally bland songs weigh this down a bit, the passion and emotion is undeniable. A bit underrated if you ask me, even the poorer songs are still decent.
While I’m still a bit disappointed by the lack of overdriven guitars and heavy drums that were all over GUTS, I much prefer this to “drop dead”. Starting to see the vision for sure, not all hope for a great album is lost.
I don’t mind Charli’s rawer vocal contributions here but the drums and overall instrumental are severely lacking.
Kinda wrote off Fakemink on his past few projects but this is genuinely pretty enjoyable. I still don’t love his vocals but something about this feels a lot more ambitious and effortful than his past albums. That’s not to say this album doesn’t have any formulaic moments — it does, and that’s easily one of my biggest issues here. Like some of the worse songs on 2093, many songs essentially take 3 verses and repeat them twice each, turning songs that could’ve ... read more
This thing is so tough to properly rate. While the creative production, thought-out rollout and great sequencing makes me feel like JPEG was putting in effort here, the frustratingly repetitive flows and lack of satisfying song structures make this thing hard to live up to his last project. ILDMLFY may have been a fluke for me.
Although Lil Shine’s rapping is fairly mediocre and can get a bit draining, the production is quite fun. Good not great.
Most of the weird accents and attempts at sexual energy on here fail pretty spectacularly, but at least Drake sounds like he’s having fun for most of it. Not as mind numbingly boring as Habibti.
If you thought Revengeseekerz had a lot of samples…holy fuck. This thing is like an endless rollercoaster of EDM and chronically online sample chops. I don’t even think Jane lays down any vocals on here — she just reuses old vocal lines from her last album (which is fine, because it was impressively catchy). While I love the wild energy all thar brings, i do still feel like this would’ve been a lot more enjoyable with some more cohesive strong structures or at least ... read more
While some moments here can come off as a bit cheesy, this is consistently catchy, sometimes emotional, and quite fun overall. Great vocals too.
Everyone who treats this like the pinnacle of trap is out of their mind. I mean, sure, the aggressive energy and most anthemic moments on here are enjoyable, and the beats are fine — but the appeal of this album has always been for its defining moments rather than the overall project. For the most part, the incredibly repetitive song structures, mediocre rapping and lack of substance make this a pretty meh listen.
