PRESIDENT - King of Terrors

The most offensively boring project I’ve heard all year. I will forget every single thing about this within an hour. At the very least, it doesn’t take up much of your time. Every single song is the same. Octanecore has been a very dull, creatively bankrupt subgenre for a few years now, but this is the worst of it. Same song structure, same horrible overproduction on the vocals, same shitty ass breakdown on every song. Not even the choruses are memorable in any way. Just an absolute ... read more

Tried getting down with this a lot of times over the years and I just don’t hear what everyone else is hearing. sorry, but I just don’t get it. it’s the same stuff BMTH did 10 years ago, only less interesting, less soul, less creativity. There are maybe three songs on this album that give me any kind of reaction, being IDWT$, Miracle, and Concrete Jungle. everything else just blurs together in a mess of uninspired clean choruses, horrible dull breakdowns. I wish they were as ... read more

it’s counterparts. they’re my favourite band of all time so i know i have a bias here, but this is easily their heaviest work, and lyrically somehow manages to be their darkest even when stacked up against an album like Tragedy Will Find Us. My only complaint is the mix which feels uncharacteristically poor for a Will Putney production. This is an incredible EP as well. a lot of people have been saying it sounds like END, but there’s enough melodic touches in here that ... read more

Godspeed You! Black Emperor - "NO TITLE AS OF 13 FEBRUARY 2024 28,340 DEAD"

As of October 14th 2024: 42,979 dead (186,000+ estimated)
struggling to find the words for this one. GY!BE says more with one, lyric-less album than most artists will ever say across a whole discography. i’ll probably never find the words for it. but listening to it is such an affecting and painful experience, especially considering the horrific events that took place last night at the Al-Aqsa hospital. Art is absolutely limitless and I’m so glad this album exists.

Bad Omens - CONCRETE JUNGLE [THE OST]

painfully mid. two good collabs on here, the Poppy one and the Health one. everything else is dull uninspired leftovers from the previous album, and the remixes are stunningly bad apart from the Just Pretend one, which is merely passable but on a collection of this poor quality it looks like solid gold. the only other thing propping this up is some solid live recordings.

Loathe - I Let It in and It Took Everything

No notes here. Every single song is a revelation. the lighter stuff is space age deftones esque with their own very unique tinge that sets it apart. the heavy stuff is absolutely bone crushing.

Converge - Jane Doe

I’ve been thinking a lot about this album lately. i’ve listened to a lot of bad albums in recent weeks and I knew I wanted to revisit something that was very important in my more formative years. This album kept coming up in my head, I’ve always held it up as one of the best metalcore albums of all time, but I haven’t listened to this properly in years. I was first exposed to it in a music class on tonal dissonance with a short snippet from Fault and Fracture when I was ... read more

Never once overstays its welcome. perfect pace, perfect lyrics, perfect story, all of it. still my ep of the decade thus far
