Logic - Under Pressure
53

Logic does show off a bit of technicality, clever bars, and a likable personality on this record. The problem is that outside of his personality, there’s nothing about his music that’s truly unique or standout within this current era of hip-hop.

Big Sean - Control
100

All three snapped, but this will ALWAYS be remembered for Kendrick calling out every popular rapper at the time. It’s truly one of the best hip-hop verses ever recorded.

Dope beat from No I.D., too

Raekwon - Only Built 4 Cuban Linx... Pt. II
91

One of the most underrated hip-hop albums of the last 15 years. Raekwon dropped nearly 80 minutes of gritty street raps, topped with fantastic production from the likes of J Dilla, The Alchamest, and more. The original “Only Built 4 Cuban Linx” Is great for what it is, but sounds pretty outdated compared to more modern rap. I’d recommend listening to this one first.

Mike Jones - Who Is Mike Jones?
65

You ain’t a real one if you never tried to call (281)330-8004.

Project Pat - Ghetty Green
86

NORTH MEMPHIS! NORTH MEMPHIS! NORTH MEMPHIS!

Westside Gunn - WHO MADE THE SUNSHINE
66

Good beats
Good rapping
AWFUL hooks and singing

86

It’s pretty bloated with it being a 2x LP, but great compilation of 90s Southern hip-hop.

Orville Peck - Show Pony
56

I see the appeal in Peck: indie music with a country twang. The problem is that the production is mediocre and his vocals are really underwhelming. I truly see potential in what he’s doing, especially being signed to Columbia Records, but there’s going to need to be a sizeable jump in quality going forward.

Best Track: Drive Me, Crazy
Worst Track: Kids

A Tribe Called Quest - The Low End Theory
100

The Tribe truly created jazz rap perfection. Easily one of the best hip-hop records ever.

Migos - YRN (Young Rich Niggas)
72

S-O-U-L-J-A-B-O-Y-T-E-L-L-E-M We Ready!

OutKast - Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik
88

One of the most underrated hip-hop records ever. Outkast hadn't found their unique style yet, but these songs are timeless!

Best Track: Funky Ride

shame - Songs of Praise
83

This album has grown on me so much since it first came out. It’s not exactly “reinventing the wheel”, but these songs are so catchy and have tons of replay value.

Best Tracks: Tasteless, Friction

Logic - No Pressure
77

Not even a huge fan of his, but if this is truly Logic’s final record, there’s no better way I could’ve asked for him to go out.

The Watts Prophets - Rappin' Black In A White World
86

This is powerful! What a great album of spoken word poetry on the issues of African Americans from the early 1970’s; the lyrics still resonate with blacks in the US to this day.

Run The Jewels - RTJ4
94

Killer Mike and El-P have SO much chemistry.

The Weeknd - After Hours
83

And just like that, we’ve got a new AOTY contender.

Goya Gumbani & Bori - Steps Across the Pond
65

These beats sound like a mix between Pi'erre Bourne and something Earl would rap over. From a production standpoint, this EP truly impresses. Although the album has features from Mike, Medhane, and more, I'm not the biggest fan of the rapping on this project.

Best Track- Sine Metu

Lil Uzi Vert - Eternal Atake
70

WHOLE LOTTA RED BETTER BE NEXT!

Zack Villere - Cardboard City
50

The most indifferent I've been on an album so far this year.
