Part two of revisiting Olivia Rodrigo albums: “SOUR” edition.
The debut album that took 2021 by storm by the before relatively unknown Disney star Olivia Rodrigo, “SOUR” is exactly what you’d expect from an album promoted and marketed as it was:
An angsty teen pop rock album about heartbreak, regret, and loneliness inspired by the artist’s idol Taylor Swift, full of melancholy lyrical tropes that has been turned cliché at this point.
Only that ... read more
In honour of the highly anticipated upcoming album that has a name that’s way too long for me to type right now by Olivia Rodrigo, I thought it’ll be fun to revisit her past discography, starting with her second studio album “GUTS”
“GUTS” is, in my opinion, just a better version of the already stellar album “SOUR”. The anger and frustration of being manipulated by not only others but oneself too, social pressures imposed on the youth, and just ... read more
First thing first: thank you so much for 200 followers!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Ok now to the review
Kacey Musgraves’ “Golden Hour” has been on my radar and listened-to list for a while now, but it was only after listening to her perfectly fine but rather uneventful fifth album “Middle of Nowhere” that I thought about making a review on this album.
So here it goes:
In “Golden Hour”; happiness, hope, joy, love and biting criticism of manchildren are all ... read more
Kacey Musgraves’ fifth studio album delivers us strong storytelling, a step into her country roots, and rather rebellious lyrics compared to other country peers
Yet I fail to connect with it beyond two or so songs
I don’t really have a lot to say about this album. It’s kind of just there: being in the background, cute and harmless. It’s still better than the majority of country I’ve listened to but it’s nothing too special to me.
Re-review of Rihanna’s eighth, and currently last, studio album: “ANTI”
In “ANTI”, Rihanna takes more creative control than in her previous projects.
Taking inspiration from artists like Amy Winehouse and Tame Impala, “ANTI” delivers some of the mainstream’s most memorable mass-appeal pop songs in history with “Love on the Brain” and “Needed Me” (we don’t talk about “Work”) as well as a whole coherent ... read more
Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream” is besides only commercially successful also one of the most culturally influential pop albums that would go on to define the sonic landscape of the 2010s. With five number one singles, it is tied only to Michael Jackson’s iconic album “Bad” for the most Billboard number one singles to come out of a single album.
And when staying on the topic of the singles, this album has very few competitors in the pop landscape in terms of ... read more

RAYE’s love letter to musicals
To hope, to sadness, to nostalgia, to pop, to soul, to orchestras, jazz and whatever else she’s got in her mind
Besides “Where’s My Husband” and “Escapism” I have come into this album completely inexperienced regarding to her discography
And I have to say that I absolutely adore this woman’s passion to making music and delivering an experience for all who listen to it
This album was an incredibly ambitious one, ... read more
Lana Del Rey,
Queen of the melancholic nostalgia aesthetic,
Icon of Americana,
Has been on my radar for a long time but mostly as exactly the aesthetic I’ve mentioned, and that aesthetic alone:
A sad depressed girl with an obsession with American culture; even as my heart opened up to her music after listening to several of her singles from her “Born To Die” era: she remained firmly stuck as background noise in my mind.
That changed when I decided to give her a shot with her ... read more
A true masterful piece of Neo-Soul and R&B
Jill Scott, of whom I haven’t heard of before I had the pleasure to encounter this album, is an extraordinary vocalist; able to seamlessly create a sense of emotion, humour and wit into a number of creative and unique songs that signal power, happiness and confidence.
Thank you, Ms. Scott for coming back after 11 years to bless my eardrums with your beautiful voice, supported by competent features and professional compositions. It has been ... read more
OMG… I love this so much
To no one’s surprise if you know how much I love Rosalía’s Motomami
But I think AKRIILA brought another side of experimentalism to the table, besides just calling us hot twinks and gays (thanks for that btw). A lot of it comes down to her approach to song-making, being more production-centred as apposed to relying on complex vocal ability. Which works out amazingly in this album. Can’t wait to hear more from this talented artist
I’ve listened to this a while back actually, but I drifted into a different endeavour while listening thus this review was a bit later.
Mitski’s arguably most critically acclaimed album felt like a true singer-songwriter passion project drenched in her signature melancholy lyrical style and minimalistic compositions. And it works.
Songs like “A Pearl” and “Washing Machine Heart” were standout tracks that despite minimal layers was still able to feel epic and ... read more
Oh Mitski, the songwriter you are
I think this album displays what Mitski has already shown she can do: paint a picture as vividly and as vaguely as humanly possible while keeping it beautiful and tragic at the same time
And well, I can’t deny the artistry she has displayed in this album as well
Got to say, this took me longer to listen to than I’d like to admit
This album is intense: Rosalía’s utter and complete control over her vocals, stylised in a traditional flamenco style, has to be one of the most emotionally powerful vocal usage I’ve ever heard (to be fair, I haven’t listened to a whole lot of flamenco but even in that genre I think she’s probably an exceptional talent)
This honestly made it a very hard listen at first, especially with the ... read more
Holy overstimulation
I love it so much
Sorry, I just don’t have a whole lot to add to this, it’s just great all around. Especially “Innuendo (I Get U)” was just exactly what I love about this album compressed perfectly into one song.
Can’t wait to hear more from her
An album that makes you feel like you’re in an old Hollywood film production of a wild jungle, mixing in some good ol’ electric guitar and muted Portugese chants and you got this album
And it’s a masterpiece
Edit: there are apparently parts in Tupi and Yoruba alongside Portugese, my bad. Only makes it cooler in my opinion.
In less than a year, the newly crowned sex pop princess returns for a round two of cheeky lyrics, sarcasm, catchy music and of course, sex
Besides the rather controversial album cover, very few songs actually left much of an imprint on me, if at all,
I will say, however, that I find “Manchild” to be her best song up until now and if this album would have had more of bops at this level, my rating would be a lot higher
Sadly, like Short n’ Sweet, the main concern of Sabrina ... read more
I got to be honest, and it might sound strange, but I got the weird feeling of being transported into a different world when listening to this album
It’s good, a tad melancholic but somewhere hopeful along the way
At least, that’s how it felt for me
I am utterly in love with this album
And most impressed because this isn’t just good but a complete masterpiece
Idk, maybe I’m rambling, maybe I’m glazing too hard
But honestly I don’t care because I love this album so much
