Damn, this is amazing. Such an incredible atmosphere from start to finish. I could potentially see this becoming a 10 for me in the future. Just really fucking good.
Favorites: I like every track on here, but I would say that th le first three songs (La Femme d’argent, Sexy Boy, and All I Need) are probably my absolute favorites.
A strong debut from the French duo, Homework is definitely the most “raw” of their albums. People more familiar with their poppier later work might be a bit off by this album, but I think that it grows on the listener a lot. It loses a bit of energy towards the end (Rock N’ Roll and Oh Yeah being the low points) but recovers with solid tracks like Alive. I think if some of those lesser songs were cut to make this album a bit shorter, then it would be something truly amazing. ... read more
Every now and then you run into a truly jaw-dropping album. Something truly life-changing, that you never forget where you were and when it was that you first heard it. Discovery is one of those albums. A true masterpiece that is more than deserving of its accolades. One of the greatest of all time.
Favorites: One More Time, Digital Love, Harder Better Faster Stronger, Something About Us, Voyager, Veridis Quo, Face to Face (but also every other song)
Imagine being so much of a hipster that you can’t admit this song is good
Don’t check the comments on the music video of this on YouTube lol
Listened to this after reading the review that called it "American Britpop". Really great album. I don't have much to say about it that hasn't already been said.
Favorites: Losing a Whole Year, Semi-Charmed Life, Jumper, How's It Going to Be, The Background, God of Wine
The best of the “early” Police albums, and one of their best albums in general. You can see how their sound is evolved from their first two albums, and in hindsight how that led into their next two. I think this album is really the “best of both worlds” of these two sounds. I like most of the tracks on here, although Shadows in the Rain is a bit weak. I enjoy Behind My Camel, but it does come off as a bit out of place. I think the rest of the songs make up for these ... read more
Pretty great album. It’s better than Outlandos D’Amour (which I already thought was pretty good) (I also think it’s better than Ghost in the Machine, which I recently reviewed). A lot of really catchy songs on this one, and some great guitar riffs from Andy Sunmers. This the Police’s most collaborative effort in songwriting, as only 4/11 tracks were written solely by Sting, which gives the album a different feel than their debut. Just very consistently good all ... read more
Pretty weird album overall. They really start using synths here. The first three tracks are amazing, the last three tracks are amazing. The middle section is certainly not bad, in fact, I don’t think there’s a “bad” song on here per se. However, I do feel that it isn’t as strong as the opening and closing few tracks.
I'm probably biased because I'm very nostalgic for this song (I didn't grow up anywhere near the 60's, I just remember hearing it a lot as a kid), but it really is great. I especially love the sitar from the late Brian Jones.
Talking about This Boy specifically here: One of the more underrated early Beatles singles. I think it's one of the best. Really beautiful harmonies and a strong vocal performance from Lennon.
Really catchy and fun tune, stereo mix is really bad (although that applies to most of their old stereo mixes).
