Kendrick Lamar - GNX
90

GNX is almost the perfect ode to the West Coast that people have been waiting for. A really well produced, and well put together project that I think captures the spirit of west coast bars perfectly. There's some instant classics on this, and there's maybe one or two that are a bit forgettable. However, I think this project stacks up very strongly with his catalog, and with hip hop.

Logic - Ultra 85
85

Never thought I'd actually want to hear more from Logic, but he FINALLY seems to understand his own music. Furthermore, he seems to finally understand how to utilize the criticism he has received in the past. He goes in on this project, the best rapping he's done, the opening track is my favorite, and overall, it's a great project. Can't believe I'm saying this, but if he continues in this direction I am excited to see what he can do.

JPEGMAFIA - I LAY DOWN MY LIFE FOR YOU
90

I don't think this project hits as hard for me as Scarin the hoes...but I still enjoy it very much. The production is incredible, probably the best on any JPEG project. IDK really what it is for me though that keeps it below Scarin the hoes, I think I may just need to relisten.

Sabrina Carpenter - Short n' Sweet
55

Unfortunately this album has no direction. Sabrina seems to be falling into the unfortunate cycle that most pop artists fall into by failing to recognize that music needs some kind of direction. Espresso, and Don't Smile; to me, are the best 2 tracks, other than that, I fail to recognize what the goal of this project is.

Childish Gambino - Bando Stone and The New World
90

As Childish Gambino, I grew up with Glover's music, and it's weird that he's retiring Gambino, but it kind of feels right. This album rocks, there is so much going on but it all works. It does weirdly feel like a goodbye to the persona, and I couldn't think of a better goodbye album. I am excited to see what Glover does with his music career going forward.

Denzel Curry - King of the Mischievous South Vol. 2
75

I appreciate the production on most of the works, and I think I get the sentiment that it doesn't have nearly enough substance as some of his other albums.

Favorite Tracks - Hoodlumz, Hot One, Black Flag Freestyle

Eminem - The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)
30

Literally nobody is trying to cancel Eminem. If they are it's because his projects are incredibly mid.

There are bars in this project that are genuinely gas, but it's immediately ruined by his fucking obsession with cancelling, Gen-Z, and Dwarfs.

Like, do you need your cold milk before bedtime grandpa? The gimmick of attacking younger generations is just corny and lame when its not just playful (unless its millenials) and its just old.

Clairo - Charm
90

I don't care about Eminem tonight Clairo gets the first listen.

Camila Cabello - C,XOXO
30

This makes me want to do painful, gruesome, and horrible things to inanimate objects

Raveena - Where The Butterflies Go in the Rain
80

Honestly just a really good listen

Don Toliver - HARDSTONE PSYCHO
75

I think the only thing I could knock this album for is the lack of consistency. I felt that too often the transition between tracks was Jarring, however each track sounded decent on its own.

KAYTRANADA - Timeless
80

This is a really, really consistent project, honestly fell in love right away on tracks 1 and 2, such unique production and not to mention the features on this project. Every one of them does great and brings it all. Just an overall great project from Kay

Nas - Illmatic
100

God I was missing out so long just listening to singles from this. The first listen through in one sitting and it was ethereal. Honestly I feel like this is the gold standard for hip-hop even today.

Charli xcx - BRAT
95

Just an incredible work from Charli, every track is a certified Ben listen, just a roller coaster of sound both with incredible production and beautiful vocals, hitting you with a nasty side of amazing wordplay.

Vince Staples - Dark Times
85

Vince is quietly emerging as one of the most unique and consistently good artists. This project is ethereal.

Drake - Family Matters
65

Not a fan of lines like "always rapping like you tryna get the slaves free". It just feels out of touch with black culture when he is trying to defend himself against those accusations.

Drake - Push Ups
80

I think push ups was a good response considering he had to respond to like 20 people, however, when he went at kendrick, it felt weak asf. Like calling him short was a shitty tactic.

ian - Valedictorian
30

He's so clearly just trying to sound like Carti it's insane. And on top of that, it's not even good

Daniel Caesar - NEVER ENOUGH
75

This is really only the second R&B album I have really enjoyed, it sounds really unique track to track which is something I usually struggle with R&B albums.
