Various Artists - Punk Goes 90’s, Vol. 2

I think to add to my already established online pretension, I’d like to start, not only this review, but to conclude this entire “punk goes whatever” series with a bit of an overarching theme. That being the idea of a flawed premise. Because I realise throughout covering almost every entry in this shit-claded dynasty, I’ve never really addressed the elephant in the room - what would a hypothetically good cover record be? Normally that’s quite easy, either you do ... read more

Y’know, when it comes to discographies like this, those that exist within what I’ll call the standard music nerd cannon, I always feel quite disenfranchised from writing reviews. Not that there isn’t anything to talk about of course, quite the opposite in fact, but it is a case of how redundant are my thoughts in context of the larger discourse surrounding the album/artist, to which pretty much anybody with even an incline of want to discuss music on a somewhat critical level ... read more

Slowdive - Souvlaki

Of all the classic music nerd albums, there are few I have an extensive history with more than Slowdive’s Souvlaki. I guess in many ways it was the album that introduced me to the larger online music space and all its rancid fruits.

And as such, I was totally ready to give this a couple of paragraphs and move on. Nothing new to say here that those more articulate and intelligent haven’t pieced together better than I could ever dream of. But as I typed, I kept feeling the need to ... read more
