The instrumentation on this album is so unique and well put together... I don't think the band will be the same without Isaac Wood. The raw emotion and strangely compelling lyrics he brought to these songs cannot be overstated- oh my lordy lord. He's not necessarily the most technical singer but you can FEEL it, which says a lot more than most singers nowadays. The reason this album isn't a ten for me is that I don't find Snow Globes and Haldern to be as good as the rest of ... read more
Chris Cornell is the best grunge singer HANDS DOWN. Soundgarden's style is so unique, especially on this album- the use of wacky tunings really adds to the strange almost stoner like vibes coming off this project. Every song here is an absolute head banger, besides Half which is lowkey trash. Chris Cornell is a sexy man and his songwriting is so engaging throughout. The other band members also bring unique flair to the album, with Matt Cameron being one of the best, with his amazingly ... read more
Every song here is immaculately constructed- with every instrument acting as their own individual hook. I don't think it's anything top tier, but there are no bad tracks on here.
(Referring to disc 1, which is more album-like)
It doesn't reach the same heights as Grace, bar from Vancouver and The Sky is a Landfill, which are incredible. Though it is arguably more consistent.
A depraved, harrowing listen full of brilliant electronic fused production mixed with a flood of abrasive noise. A very compelling listen, though due to the insanely dark subject matter it's not an album I have in rotation all the time. Despite this every song is brilliantly composed and produced and is better experienced from front to back.
Though not a perfect album, this incredible debut just goes to show how much promise Jeff Buckley's future career had. To come out with this much quality and unique variety first try is just mind blowing. The tracklist is mostly excellent.. it's just for a few tracks, in my opinion, that don't hit as hard as the others. These are the covers, that being Hallelujah, Corpus Christi Carol and Lilac Wine. Of course, I do like these songs, though I have always been more blown away by ... read more
Turns out Gilmour is a far better bass player than Roger!!
OK, shut up, serious review. This album is quite possibly the greatest I have ever heard, through it's colourful instrumentation, masterful lyrics and ridiculous, spralling song structures... the full package appears so complete- a stroke of genius, if you will. The first time I heard the album it was like no other I had ever heard at the time, and I didn't know what to think of it. Now, of course, it has become one of my ... read more
Honestly a lot better than I thought. Very consistent tracklist and shit, lot of good tunes !!! Most of the time J Coles lyrics are pretty great in my opinion. Album starts to drag a tiny bit towards the end but not by much, just most of the better material is around the start.
I don't understand the love for Robert Wyatts voice. He sounds so bad most of the time. And the compositions and lyrics are pretty uninteresting to be honest.
