To me this doesn't feel as bad as some of the comments say, but it's true that he's grown a lot. It's night and day between e.t.d.s and this EP, but that's hardly a criticism given how good e.t.d.s is.
This is by no means a perfect project, but it is amazingly cohesive mixtape. The 'pop' tag belies an experimental project which still feels weirdly familiar. While Charli does embrace the method of putting catchy hooks in some of these tracks to make them feel appealing, the mixtape is never reliant on them. The production is very beautiful, and so many modern hyperpop songs feel inspired by it.
Most of the time, too much autotune doesn't hold up and gets annoying fast. But it ... read more
I had no idea these people existed like 3 days ago so when I went into the album I didn't know what to expect. All I can say is I was pleasantly surprised.
The album pulls you in right from the intro, which feels very enticing. Then it doesn't look back with amazing beats throughout (although kinda fall off for the last two tracks) and good balance of shit-talk and important talk on top of them. Weirdly enough, although most of the tracks are pretty short, they don't feel like ... read more
Freddie's rapping is solid as always, the flows are amazing, the production is good, and Freddie's ad-libs never get old, but my god, that last track is unbearable.
The project feels pretty well done overall with catchy chorus and great peaks. Although the first to second track jump did worry me as it felt like a massive drop, the project did a great job of picking itself up after that with consistently great tracks and no noticeable change in quality of performance or lyricism. I don't know if it's just me, but the mixing however, felt a bit inconsistent — sometimes the instrumentals did get overwhelming to the ear, and sometimes they felt ... read more
I really hope these were just throwaways cause what the fuck. From the moment you enter to the moment you stop, your disappointment just increases exponentially. These were comfortably some of the worst tracks I've ever heard. And what does he think Sexy Redd adds to his music? I genuinely want to know. This is the type of album you couldn't get me to listen to even if you paid me. ffs man.
While better than Habibti, it's still very very bad. Neither do the features add anything, nor are his own tracks memorable at all. If anything, they're funny in a sad way. This album has zero songs I'll remember, and I don't think I'll revisit it ever again. Just so disappointing.
Although some tracks are really good and filled with bars, the project fails to be consistently great. Also a very repetitive criticism on any Drake album — it feels very bloated. Unnecessary beat switches in almost every next track makes it more annoying. "Iceman was a nice man" bar decreases 5 rating points for me, that's just embarrassing as fuck.
Unrelated, but the album cover is fire.
He really sounds the best when he's just flexing. The bars with him talking his shit are insane, and the production is amazing. No 100 because of Girls Girls Girls (both).
Good production, great flows, terrible hit or miss ratio for something with only 7 songs but understandable as it's an EP, I guess.
A godly performance about depression, loneliness, love and so much more. This album has everything, the range is just amazing from Green Light through Liability to Perfect Places. She takes risks by swaying away from traditional pop conventions, which the album maybe demands too. And she executes it perfectly. The way Lorde expresses her emotions while entering adulthood is just flawless, she leaves no place to complain. Her songwriting and performance is top tier, and her vocal range is ... read more
A perfect mix of serious and unserious music in my opinion. The production is simple but great, the song writing is very good. The flows might be pretty basic for some tracks but the lyrics make up for it. Not much to add to it tbh, just a pretty solid project.
I'm in love with this project. The bars, the production, the hunger and the flows - everything was perfection. One of those very few albums that leaves you wanting more, that you wish would not finish so soon. The bars were so tough, and Pusha sounds so confident spitting them. Not a second wasted either, every single moment spent listening to this was worth it.
Production wise he uses the same formula for pretty much the whole album but it works very well so I can't complain. The album is very consistent from first to last with similar quality tracks but with very obvious standouts being Vodka Cranberry and House That Always Rains. Solid album imo, 17 tracks not feeling bloated is an achievement in itself.
Good god this album tested my patience. It's almost the same music from the start to the end, and very predictable and generic. I don't see what others see in this honestly.
Just not my cup of tea. I liked Utility better than Pompeii but I still don't think I'll be coming back to this project any time soon.
Feels like a half-assed project work when you HAVE to meet the deadline - start off trying to make everything perfect, realize that you haven't got the energy (or time) to sustain that, and then do whatever the fuck.
The start is promising, and some tracks genuinely make you see shades of the old Kanye. They do make you feel like something good is brewing. But then everything falls apart. The laziness of the artist at the end makes you think these tracks are just demos of an amazing final ... read more
Some fucking amazing tracks in there. Earl feature was so good too. Oh and the production is heatttt.
The bars are funny and I had a lot of fun listening to the project. However, I was just...waiting for a couple of tracks to end cause they felt so meh. Liked the project overall, I know I'll definitely revisit it a lot.
