rappers been on this “rappers are the new rockstars” wave for honestly like the past 20 years now, but this is the first album besides like Whole Lotta Red that really makes me feel that energy. there’s definitely a weird punk quality to some of these songs , the the teenage rebelliousness (idk if he’s still a teenager tbh) & the loud blown out instrumentals that make you wanna break something.
”King” acts as a perfect outro song to drive home the real purpose of this album. there are no punches pulled, throughout the entire album ye makes references to the controversies that have surrounded him and upended his life for the past year (and past few years), but he never apologizes for it. there’s no reason to apologize(from his perspective, of course). he’s “still the king”. it’s a level of boldness you almost have to respect. the same can be ... read more
