Chiodos - Bone Palace Ballet: Grand Coda

Something tells me this album isn't really my scene. Beyond "Life Is a Perception of Your Own Reality" nothing stood out too much for me.

Third Eye Blind - Third Eye Blind

Got some songs I'll definitely relisten to out of this album but overall, an album that was never really bad or mid. Just consistently solid for me.

Lil Wayne - Tha Carter III
50

Feel like I would've liked it more if Lil Wayne had found a way to end the album better. Truly a three song run to be studied there. Besides those songs, just generally an up and down album with some really good songs (Mr Carter and Mrs Officer) and some very mid ones.

Citizen - Life In Your Glass World

Did not expect to enjoy this as much as I did. Still have Death Dance Approximately & I Want to Kill You on repeat

Michael Jackson - Thriller

A very fun album in every sense. There's energy in everything, and its short runtime works to its benefit, making it even sweeter.

PRYVT - &SCENE

Just a really enjoyable for me personally. The vocals are nice, the production is interesting, but it's all weighed down by an unremarkable middle that settles for being solid.

The Strokes - Room on Fire
57

Maybe garage rock isn't for me, and that's okay. However, the songs felt very repetitive at times, and I don't think I enjoyed them enough individually to make up for it. I will say that "You Talk Way Too Much" was a personal favorite of mine, and I do like all the instrumentals as a whole. However, the raspiness of the vocals takes me out of the songs a bit, and combined with the repetitiveness, means I can't fully get into this album. It's a bit ... read more

McKinley Dixon - Magic, Alive!
77

The album's got a ton of energy to it. McKinley's voice combined with instrumentals that really elevate the entire experience makes sure every song is great to listen to. Sometimes, his creative choices may not lead to the best listening experience (looking at Crooked Stick) but I've come away from this aobum with a bunch of songs I'll be relistening to for the next few weeks.

Attack In Black - Marriage
57

An album filled with solid songs that I struggle to hate, but it's held back by becoming repetitive over time. Upon reviewing my song-by-song ratings, I'm realizing that I grew tired of this album rather quickly, and it failed to engage me. The vocals lacked an upper register to keep things interesting, the endings dragged on for a touch too long at times, and with this repetition, the album struggles to keep one's attention. If I heard a select song again, I probably ... read more

Emarosa - Emarosa

Very chill album that I enjoyed for the most part. I was a fan of the instrumentals, especially on "The game played right" and "We are life." At times, though, each song felt somewhat redundant, which probably detracted from the overall listening experience. I did enjoy each song individually for the most part, so it wasn't like I particularly hated listening to similar things over and over again. All in all, I had fun listening to this album, despite not knowing much ... read more

LaRussell - BLACK BOY FLY
27

I will give LaRussell some credit. I do think he tries to tell a supportive and inspirational message through his songs about getting through tough times by leaning on your community. I think that's an important message to share, and I respect him for trying to spread it. My only wish is that next time, he does it in a way that is pleasing to listen to.

Beyond anything else, I just don't enjoy hearing LaRussell's voice. It's very uninteresting and flat, not carrying a ... read more

Khamari - A Brief Nirvana
53

Immediately when I began the album, I thought I had accidentally started a Frank Ocean song instead. This is how I was introduced to Khamari, and I believe it sums up this album pretty well. His lyrics reminds me of Thomas Day and other young male who focus on emotionalism and youth in their lyrics. The difference between them is that these artists tend to emphasize the strength of their voice, at least in my opinion, while outside of sounding a hell of a lot like Frank Ocean, Khamari's ... read more

Jason Isbell - The Nashville Sound

I generally don't like this type of music, but I was genuinely surprised at times by the amount of depth this album had. It was a lot more interesting than I expected.

Mac Miller - Swimming
97

This album is honest and personal, bringing you into Mac's fucked up world with strong instrumentals. You can hear some synth and psychedelic influences in the album, and they really help create an amazing atmosphere as you're listening. Though Mac isn't always rapping in this record, his voice may be at its best here, filled with the anguish of a man who knows he's on borrowed time. While some of the songs may hit harder now due to Mac's passing, that still doesn't change the power of this ... read more

Sleepy Hallow - DON'T SLEEP
35

This entire album feels like an attempt to give us essentially the same song in as many different ways as possible. While the music is alright, the album ends up grating on you as Sleepy Hallow does not attempt to do anything interesting. In Demons especially, the more melodic beat had me hopeful of a more introspective and personal song. But just as with basically every song in the album, it ultimately is derivative.

Niall Horan - The Show

For two weeks after I initially listened to this album, I tried to wrap my head around it. It wasn’t that the album was monumentally groundbreaking and my feeble imagination was falling apart around me. Something just felt wrong with the album; something was missing.

I listened to individual songs for hours on YouTube, hoping inspiration would strike me while I studied for finals. While I did stumble my way into an A on my Chemistry final while doing an experiment wrong, I was not able ... read more

With a name like Beabadoobee, I was perfectly ready to make fun of this album. It seemed perfect. Two good friends of mine recommended it to me, the artist’s name was mind-bogglingly funny, and I’m always ready to bully something.

But then… the album was just straight-up good.

Maybe it’s because I’m from the generation as Beabadoobee, but the music struck a chord with me. It’s the kind of mix of indie pop and rock that led me to turn to Phoebe Bridgers for ... read more
