Agalloch Deep Dive #1: The Demonstration Archive, The Formation of Agalloch's Sound
God bless my 6'4 kind handsome boyfriend @Mandarin48 for helping me writing this truly the review goat of all time
The main thing that stays with you is the sensation of a sound just about to be recognized but still a bit unsettled and finding its shape. This archive seems more like a peek into the process of creation and such ideas frozen at the very moment when they begin to take shape than a ... read more
im so fucking scared
Once expression through music no longer works, exposing one's self to the world through music is felt. This record is just about that borderline. It suffers without any way out, without resolution, just silently dying. This record is very hard to love due to the power of its mere presence. It is not even attempting to defend itself. It just happens to come into being, and that is why it affects me so deeply.
Actually, the baseline is surprisingly quite bare at the ... read more
Black Flag invented music??
Some records come across as merely angry. This one sounds like it truly detests the world around it.
When people mention first generation hardcore punk, the image that comes to mind for most of them is speed, short songs and that explosive energy which is supposed to hit you all at once and disappear just as fast. This album starts with that, however it does not remain in that lane for long. Rather, it gradually transforms that aggression into something much more ... read more
There's something a bit disturbing in sincerity that hasn't yet figured out how to protect itself.
I'm not talking about the curated kind. The one version that carefully performs vulnerability with planned lighting. I mean the one that doesn't expect to get hardened.
This album feels like it's caught in that very moment, before the awareness of oneself becomes a defense.
It doesn't sound like a nostalgic one. It doesn't seem like an imitation. It feels like ... read more
You suffer, but why?
This album is not anger. Anger still expects a reaction. Dystopia is what happens after that expectation has been completely turned belly upwhen anger is used up, and all there is left is a dull, grinding feeling that no one is coming to save us. It is music made after the decision has been accepted, not before one is made.
The environment this album is set in is a world where misery is no more the dramatics or the exception. It's just everyday stuff. Governments ... read more
album swap w Mellope he tuff
The music really works in setting a laid back tone that's a bit strange, as if wandering through familiar places that still feel a bit odd. That said, it doesn’t really function as a cohesive album and feels more like an early-career collection than a fully realized statement. My favorite song is probably Xtal 'cause im a professional larper
this shit got me wet in public aha
starts off amazing slows down a little bit towards the middle and snaps at the last 2 tracks amazing listen ion know where im at would do it again
(part 8)
MANDARIN48 WILL PAY
sludgepilled crustmaxxing part 7
very raw, angry and dirty sludge blends with the atmospheric parts perfectly. Already one of my favorite sludge metal albums
sludgemaxxed crustpilled part 6!!! another miserable listen
Neurosis album is characterized as a dark and grim, genre, defying, seminal record where downtuned, miserycore heaviness, noise experimentation, and pure, raw emotionality merge to form a terrifyingly beautiful artifact of black art from another world that remains just as powerful to this day as it did in the 90s.
Breathing with intent to drown... (writing this as im shaking from cold)
Certain albums just can't be put into words. Not because they are technically intricate, but because their charm is dependent on a singular moment a silent, irrational flicker between the work and the listener. Despite discovering this album pretty recently, I feel like it's one of those albums that really represent me and its prolonged presence in my life since the moment i've heard it, I also grown to ... read more
crustpilled sludgemaxxing part 4
so evil so scary. shit your pants heavy stuff like linkin park and slipknot. a bit long for a crust-punk album though imo
crustpilled sludgemaxxing part 3!!!
Dismal by Grief feels like a slow death. It's very slow and suffocating sludge metal. Everything sounds like a different type of pain slowly getting to your ass. The songwriting can be tame sometimes but they are also so effectively executed that the album is pretty much perfect if im looking for something more gloomy / depressing rather than aggressive.
sludgepilled crustmaxxing part 2?
i get how important this is and there is cool riffs and all but it doesnt stand out from literally any other punk band i've heard so far
