Pinned Review

Beach House - Depression Cherry
96

Beach House's magnum opus and it's not even close. This is not only my favorite Beach House album, but one of my favorite albums ever made. Victoria and Alex, miraculously, bestowed upon their fans one of the most emotional, transcendental, goosebump-invoking, and heartfelt albums I've ever had the pleasure to listen to. Every **single** track is worth experiencing in full, from front to back, and this record just sweeps you away into this ethereal place of listening. I love this ... read more

MGMT - Congratulations

After their critically acclaimed album "Oracular Spectacular" smashed the charts, MGMT went back to the drawing board to make an album that met their preferences, rather than appeasing the public ear. "Congratulations" this time around was met with mediocre reviews from critics, but fans responded rather positively. How do I feel about this record? Well, there's lots of interesting songs and fun production. In a weird way, it kind of feels like a psychedelic surfer ... read more

Sufjan Stevens - Convocations

Arriving at one of the last albums I listened to from Sufjan (I'll do his newer stuff at some point), "Convocations" is a concept album disguised as a ambient album. The meaning of this lengthy 2 hour record was to convey the five stages of grief as well as reflecting on his mental health after losing his father. I'll be honest, I listened to this album twice in its entirety and I don't want to do it again. This 49 track album is entirely instrumental with a few ambient ... read more

Sufjan Stevens - The BQE (The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

"The BQE" is one of Sufjan's most underrated albums IMO. Written for a live show and an artistic representation of the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, this classical, romantic-like orchestral album is filled with beautiful composition and an engaging runtime! I've listened to this album around 50 times by now and each listen almost leaves me filled with the sense of joy that the first listen captured me with. While not a perfect record by any means, it's still one of the ... read more

Sufjan Stevens & Lowell Brams - Aporia

Kind of forgot that "Aphoria" was technically apart of Sufjan's discography, so I figure I'd throw my two cents in on this. "Aporia" was a collaboration album between Sufjan and his step-father Lowell Brams. While little is known about the origins of this album, it's more than likely a compilation of songs they worked on together thrown in one record. While some call this new age, it mostly falls more under ambient in my opinion. I should state, this album ... read more

MGMT - Oracular Spectacular

MGMT's first album has some incredible high's and some pretty mediocre lows, which is funny considering one of their goals for this album was to make generic pop songs that would be big hits, which I'd say they succeeded! As a pop album, it's pretty solid and there's lots of tracks on this record that were generational hits, but you'd be hard pressed to do full back-to-back listens like many other pop albums. It's one of those rare albums I'd recommend ... read more
