A highly conceptual album, one that's highly critical of the dangers of consumerism, climate change, industrialization, and various other pressing topics. Its and album that's aged extremely well both topically and sonically. Production-wise, this album feels very synthetic, but in the best way, Plastic Beach is a truly immersive project. As well as featuring some of Gorillaz best songs and collaborations, just a fantastic album.
To write a review for this album almost feels pointless at this point because after everything, what do I have to add to the discourse? An album that touches on so many different themes including self-hatred, self-love, greed, corruption, power, and Kendricks, as well as the listeners place in all of this, not to mention the fantastic production and jazz instrumentals. This album is, simply put, a masterpiece.
If I had to pick, In Rainbows would probably be my all time favorite album. It's hard to describe what makes this album so special. Maybe its the sense of intimacy and warmth displayed throughout the album. Maybe it's the perfect track list, of songs that all blend together like butter, but all stand out on their own as unique masterpieces.
