Disturbing, haunting and truly evocative. Highly recommend, but make sure you're in the right state of mind first.
I'm pretty unfamiliar at this point with jazz in general, this being the first actual jazz album I've ever properly listened to, and as an introduction, it was fantastic! People probably will recognize this as the album the One Beer sample is from, the song being Huit Octobre 1971, which is such a groovy track. But aside from that this album is filled with plenty of genuinely great instrumentation and composition. I've already come back to it several times, and likely will ... read more
It took me a while to get around to this album, but I'm glad I finally did! This Is Why has so much energy to it, it's such a refreshingly exciting album. It makes me really want to explore more of Paramores back catalogue!
This albums a mess. Half the tracks feel unfinished. The style is a blatant copy of Tyler the Creator. I have a million critiques I could levy towards this album, yet... I don't hate it. There are so many moments on this album that surprised me with just how beautiful they sounded, or how clever the writing is, or how interesting the concept is. He has a long way to go, but I think detahjae has potential to be truly magnificent.
Kendrick keeps the momentum going, with one of his most casual albums yet. It's not trying to say to much, it's very much a reflective album for Kendrick, and the listener, to just sit with everything that's happened for a moment.
Tyler continues finding new ways to be vulnerable, while somehow maintaining an insane level of confidence that's well deserved, as this might be Tyler's boldest album yet.
Despite sounding a little amaturish at points, YHTLS for the most part manages to sound beautifully painful, much like it's album art
Haunting. Manic. A musical exorcism.
Sky Hundred is deeply nostalgic, noisy, hazy and a little messy; all the calling cards of great shoegaze album, as well as a great parranoul album. This album is very well paced, with strong production and very creative and enjoyable soundscapes, with some elements of noise sprinkled in to good effect.
VDC rips itself apart and methodically puts itself together again
King of Limbs is underrated. I think it succeeds in what it's trying to achieve. It's not some crazy concept album like Kid A, or OK Computer, but it's a good experiment, and a good album to turn your brain off, and zone out to. It does a good job of just pulling you in, and letting you float in this space.
It's hard to listen to this album and not have fun. Ginger Root brings some energy to the inde-pop scene.
A return to form from Dayglow, boasting the same level of creativity from Fuzzybrain, but with much more confidence and real skill that Sloan has clearly been honing over the past few albums. Unlike some of his past albums, slef-titled feels like Sloan really has something he wants to say. Like Fuzzybrain it's no where near perfect, but it's something that feels real, new and exciting.
Even before Björk was Björk, she was sounding like nothing else. A very enjoyable project!
