With his first album since 2016’s Blank Face, ScHoolboy Q is back with CrasH Talk. Here, unfortunately, he lets mainstream appeal water down his aggressive delivery and the vanilla trap beats he uses don’t give this project any life
This is my introduction to Pivot Gang. I have liked much of the work from Saba and the Chicago rap scene, so no surprise here that I like this project. The beats are straight forward but hit hard; the verses are charismatic with catchy flows and some strong wordplay. The hooks seemed a bit lazy to me at some points and the project didn’t take a whole lot of risks. Overall, this is a very enjoyable listen and the simple approach is executed very well.
