Beautiful album. The way he uses his words and tells stories throughout these songs is amazing. It's clear that he was very influential to a lot of early hip-hop/rap artists and continues to be now. 'Pieces of a Man' is a beautiful song with amazing storytelling. Next to the title track, my favorite track is 'Lady Day and John Coltrane'.
Such a hidden treasure of an album. Love all of the switch-ups, solos, and progressions. My favorite tracks are 'Totem' and 'Pieces: Tombo / La Escuela / Tombo / The Last Goodbye'. This album really takes you on a journey with every single song, and there's never a moment where it gets predictable or boring.
When I first listened to this album, it changed my perception of music and music production. Now, 7 years later, I still struggle to imagine how some of these soundscapes and sound effects were even created. This will always be one of my favorite albums.
