A review I have wanted to rewrite for a while. Deathconsciousness is one of the first albums I ever reviewed on this site and was definitely the first full-length album experience that felt transformative in how I approached listening to music. My prior overreliance on AI-generated spotify singles recommendations was over. My all-too-short attention span, skipping halfway through songs was challenged.

DIIV's release of Frog in Boiling Water solidified themselves as the epitome of strong, catchy, innovative indie rock/shoegaze in the modern era. This is a bit calmer and less dark than albums like Doused and Deceiver but it still has that sullen and introspective atmosphere that works so well with this genre fusion.
Favorite track is Soul-Net.
Actually really liked this. Heavier grunge-gaze like this that sort of sounds like Cloakroom but a bit more accessible is always welcomed. This whole album top to bottom is consistently really good. Loving it. Maybe feels a bit samey at times, though.
Favorite track is Twelve Years.
Outside of Guilty of Everything and the Great Dismal, Nothing fails to really resonate with me as a shoegaze fan. Theres just a lot more out there I'd rather be listening to. One of their more accessible but here it felt less interesting.
Starts out slow but builds into something beautiful. One of those albums that doesnt really set in the first listen, at least for me. Give it a few more tries and it grows. Perhaps one of the more underappreciated 90s shoegaze bands, creating a top 20 album for the genre. Good stuff.
Starts out really strong and interesting with E and Hare Tarot Lies, which have been added to my playlists, but the rest is just kind of uninspired and a bit sleepy. Not offensive, and there's some moments of creative flare but after the two opening tracks its downhill.
