Sunny Day Real Estate - Diary

there are some great songs but overall its not my favorite midwest emo album of its time period, its still great and worth a listen though.

The Hotelier - Home, Like Noplace Is There

album 2/??? of reviewing every midwest emo album

this album is so raw and emotional and I really feel everything in the lyrics and vocals. I want to write a longer review but in general for me this is just such a emotional and lyrically powerful album that kind of just speaks for itself.

Don Caballero - What Burns Never Returns
87

I'm pretty split about this album. on the one hand its my first experience with math rock and I think its a super great album with cool and unique sounds but on the other hand the other hand the first time I tried to listen to it i got a crazy headache which made me kind of wary to pick it up again. like I said this is my first experience with math rock and i'm exited to hear more of it but I just have to remember to not listen to it when i'm sick.

Newfound Interest in Connecticut - Tell Me About the Long Dark Path Home

Album 1/??? of listening to every midwest emo album(I know I skipped a few)

midwest emo is and has been one of, if not my favorite genres so I wanted to do something like this to explore more of the genre. I want to go through and listen to/review every album and EP labeled as midwest emo (not counting ones I’ve already reviewed)

This album is great, it’s a super nice mix of post rock and midwest emo and I love it. It all sounds so good and is depressing yet also really ... read more

Alex G - Race
100

Ive been a fan of Alex G for a while now but it took me a minute to give this one a try. I fell in love with Trick the very first time I heard it, and this album was no different. every aspect of it from the singing to the instrumentals were perfect. its already an album that i'm coming back to again and again.

Antônio Carlos Jobim - Wave
87

This album is so comforting, relaxing, calming. Jazz has really been growing on me and this is some of the best jazz adjacent stuff I’ve heard recently. Listening to this just makes me want to hear this on vinyl while sipping some coffee on a roof balcony while watching the sun rise over the horizon. Super beautiful.

Car Seat Headrest - Teen of Denial: Joe's Story
60

what was the point here?

ToD is such a great album and really there was nothing done better on this version. when I first put it on nothing sounded different and I thought I put on the original by mistake. other than that I have nothing to say about this, its just completely pointless and it gives me no reason to listen to this over the original version.

Bladee & Ecco2k - Crest
85

I was having trouble falling asleep tonight so I was just looking through Apple Music for something to listen to. Crest has been on my radar for a while now but I hadn’t picked it up until now. I came into this with almost no expectations and was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. The vocals are all right but the production and the way it all sounds was what really impressed me. All of it layers so nicely and it’s just really nice to listen to. Also 2020-2024 is a period ... read more

Car Seat Headrest - Starving While Living

Even though its super short all the songs are good, it flows well and its nice to quickly pick and listen if you have a few minutes.

The Lumineers - Automatic

I actually forgot I listened to this until a song from here came onto the radio the other day. I remember being really exited for its release and listening to it constantly for like a week afterwards. I know that I really liked it but thinking back I hardly remember any of it and what I do remember is pretty hit or miss. Maybe ill have more to say about it if I give it another listen or 2, not that I really want that. very mediocre and not all that memorable, but not the worst thing ive ever ... read more

Candy Claws - Ceres & Calypso in the Deep Time

I didnt like it as much as some of their other works but its still good

A Beacon School - Cola

ok, this may be a new one of my favorite albums

Everything about it from the production, riffs, instrumentals, vocals are all perfect and beautiful. It has such an addictive and dreamy sound that is easy to get lost in and I just love the way I can get lost in it. The only reason I didn't give it a 100 is because i've only listened to it once and I feel as though I cant give it a perfect score yet, though I definitely will after getting to know it a bit better. Dream pop as a genre ... read more

Matt Aspinwall / The Brave Little Abacus - Matt Aspinwall / The Brave Little Abacus

The Matt Aspinwall half is good but some of BLA's best work is on here which was definitely a surprise to me. Its distinctly different than the other 2 albums that came after it. Its just a great sounding project from both sides although I dont think it quite compares to BLA's other albums. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoyed other BLA stuff.

drug bug - Hell for a Basement
70

Ive been meaning to listen to this one since the day it came out, and even though I liked it, I still have some mixed feelings on it. while there are some songs that I really like, all around it doesnt do all that much for me. I can see how people really like it but listening to the whole thing at once I dont find it to be too great. Ill give it some more listens and time to grow on me because I can definitely see this as something I would really like If I give it time. Until then I think ill ... read more

The Brave Little Abacus - Masked Dancers: concern in so many things you forget where you are
100

I hate to give both BLA albums a perfect score (not really) but I honestly cant think of any album more deserving of the score. I think that on this album you can hear the midwest emo and math rock elements a lot more while still connecting with me and having the emotional connection I loved from Just Got Back. Overall I dont think I like it any more than Just Got Back but it is still definitely comparable and it just shows how much BLA has continued to become one of my favorite bands.

東京酒吐座 [Tokyo Shoegazer] - Remains
80

(personally) this year has been stacked with great releases and this is just one of the many I enjoyed. The sounds on here are really cool and and its a really fun listen. Ive trying to get into shoegaze recently and this is actually one of my favorites of the genre i've heard so far. It doesn't feel too drony or aimless and it doesn't lose me at all. so glad I gave this a listen and I can definitely see myself coming back to this one often. one more thing, I just wanted to say ... read more

Willy Rodriguez - Silly Love Songs For Unfortunate Breakups
87

this is the second release from them that i've listened to and even though its not as good as wetdream you can see the direction it was going and how it relates to and improved upon itself on wetdream. One other thing about it I want to mention is how short it is. while I was listening to it I thought that my headphones had disconnected or something, but no, its just that short. all things considered its not bad, and still worth a listen even though its not their best.

Car Seat Headrest - Monomania
90

Monomania very quickly went from a CSH album I kind of overlooked but after giving a good few, fair listens I can say that it is one of my favorite albums from Will Toledo. times to die is one of my favorite CSH songs now and even though I think it has a few misses all of the songs have been growing on me a lot. definitely a great album thats worth a listen.

fav songs: Romantic Theory, Times to Die

Marvin Gaye - What's Going On
96

Thanks so much to @NaderAhmed for recommending this to me!

Ive been meaning to listen to this for a while but I think I listened to it at the best possible time. I was out on a walk on a nice, warm, beautiful spring day and this album hit perfectly for that. I haven't really listened to all that much soul but I seriously need to listen to more, this is so good!!! the singing is exceptional, Marvin Gaye has one of the best singing voices ive ever heard. the whole album is just so nice and ... read more
