Well, my Muse marathon comes to an end, and what a wet fart of an ending. Simulation Theory is an interesting album, I generally like to give bands props for trying something new but it also feels like Muse is trend-chasing here so I can't exactly call it adventurous. But I find it a bit refreshing even though a big portion of this album falls flat. First, let's start with the good, The Dark Side, Pressure, Break it to Me, and Blockades are all genuinely great/good songs and I'm glad that even if a Muse album sucks they can still produce a handful of tracks I find enjoyable.
Now the bad, there's actually not as much super embarrassing material on here as there was on Drones, most of it is just boring like Algorithm. However, there are a few real stinkers, like Propaganda which has awful lyrics and a horrible synthesized voice somewhat reminiscent of Unsustainable. There's also Though Contagion which I think could be a good song in some other reality but has those awful Indie Rock chants and just ends up sounding like an Imagine Dragons song. Dig Down I found kinda corny but the gospel version on the deluxe album is much better, really sells it.
So I guess I give Simulation Theory a slightly positive "Ehhh?" Overall, I had more fun with it than I did with Drones and that's all that really matters.
