They released this just a week or so after I finish my Muse marathon, how nice. But anyway, this is certainly an album, I listened to it alright.
Idk this is just the musical equivalent of vaporware, nothing super remarkable here, it's just Muse tripling down on being bad I guess? The lyrics are still so awful, I've seen some generous interpretations of them by some Muse fans, and like ok neat ideas if true I guess but the execution is still horrendous. Matt, I beg you to just hire a ... read more
Well, my Muse marathon comes to an end, and what a wet fart of an ending. Simulation Theory is an interesting album, I generally like to give bands props for trying something new but it also feels like Muse is trend-chasing here so I can't exactly call it adventurous. But I find it a bit refreshing even though a big portion of this album falls flat. First, let's start with the good, The Dark Side, Pressure, Break it to Me, and Blockades are all genuinely great/good songs and I'm glad that even ... read more
This album makes me want to support the military-industrial complex.
This album is the musical equivalent of a below-average YA novel.
Seriously what happened here? Yeah, The 2nd Law was a mixed bag but at least it was fun, most of this album is either boring or embarrassing. It's like they took the worst parts of The Resistance and thought dialing it up a few notches would be a good idea. Matt has never been particularly insightful or subtle with his lyricism, especially when it's ... read more
First The Resistance and now this album both have stellar album art for less than stellar albums.
But I do like this album more than The Resistance at least, it's more musically interesting, more diverse, and just plain fun. I'd take Panic Station any day over most of the vacant political ramblings off of the previous album.
The 2nd Law is a pretty mixed bag though, I don't hate Follow Me as much as the next person but the dubstep wubs just don't work for what seems to be trying to be a ... read more
I don't have much to say about Hullabaloo other than that it's a very strong collection of B-sides plus some rocking live cuts.

The Eraser is a very sentimental album for me, I love it so much. Thom proves he has the legs to stand on his own with one instantly memorable solo album full of banger after banger, each song has such a unique identity while fitting cohesively into the electronic environment of the album. I find it a lot harder to write about albums I love but I will say that Skip Divided does NOT deserve a 77 what is WRONG with you people??
Nothing inspires a revolution more than hollow pop-rock.
This album is just ok but I'm really bitter because it's just such a disappointment coming off of the past 3 albums, so sorry if I come off too harsh. Something about this album, I don't know it's just kinda hollow, it mainly consists of Matt Bellamy yelling about how he wants the truth over some overproduced pop rock. What truth does Matt want to know? I don't know, I don't think Matt knows either. At least in previous albums when Matt ... read more
Muse really was on a roll during the 00s, this album is great. This time they make a bit of a left turn away from the sound of their last three albums and head towards a poppier, more diverse sound palette. And it works!
On this album Muse makes some of the slickest pop-rock tunes ever, Supermassive Black Hole, for example, is like sonic glue to my neurons with its groovy riff and sexy overlapping vocals that are just absolutely undeniable. There are still heavier songs reminiscent of the ... read more
Muse's third album is brilliant, it's their most consistent so far, Matt Bellamy is on his A-game with his lyricism, and the songwriting is immaculate. It's hard to really wrangle up the words to describe my thoughts on this album because I did not expect it to be as good as it is, I mean, I knew it was good I remember liking it a lot but my expectations were truly exceeded in every way. And to top it off it's a concept album! Being a concept album in and of itself isn't an automatic gold star ... read more
An overall step up from Showbiz in almost every aspect. The songwriting is better, Matt Bellamy decided to put some more effort into his lyricism, it's more consistent, and the album flows really well. Also, Matt comes out the gate showing how hard he can rock the piano which is a big plus.
Favorite Songs: New Born, Bliss, Hyper Music, Citizen Erased, Space Dementia, Plug in Baby
Least Favorite Songs: Megalomania, Screenager
Every time I revisit this album the hooks on this thing bury their way deeper into my frontal lobe, this is a triumph of the power of virginity.
"Grow, my hair, I wanna be, wanna be, wanna be Jim Morrison."
"But I'm playing with myself"
A very awkward debut for my favorite band but not as bad as some people say, it has a few fun jams and the bad songs are at least usually the funny kind of bad.
Favorite Songs: You, Creep, Ripcord, I Can't, Blow Out
Least Favorite Songs: How Do You?, Thinking About You
Muse was the first band that I ever really got into, I kinda left them in the dust after I started developing my tastes further and became a bit of a snob. But my snobby days are over (I think) and I'm happy to give them another chance, starting with their debut album. Funnily enough I never actually gave this album the time of day during my Muse phase, but hearing this with fresh ears I have to admit, this is a pretty rock-solid debut.
Matt Bellamy comes out of the gate with his yes, Thom ... read more
