Such well crafted instrumentals and super memorable melodies on nearly every corner of this album, I can totally see the hype
An incredible listen both emotionally and musically. It would pain me to give this anything less than a 100 personally
I haven’t listened to a ton of post-punk albums but wow was this quite a memorable listen. The central theme of being completely apathetic to your own existence permeates this album deeply, even on the songs where this theme isn’t the main focus. There is a near perfect balance of lowkey tracks, thematic diversions, and even a few straight up rock songs pop up on here. Ian Curtis’ vocals are both chilling and beautiful, and the instrumentation is generally incredible as well.
For the most part I enjoyed this, although I kinda went into it not knowing what to expect. There were a few songs I thought Drake didn’t really bring a great energy to, and a couple I thought were a bit longer than they needed to be. But for an hour long project and going in completely blind I really enjoyed it.
I catch a lot of flack from certain people because I defend Taylor as an artist a lot. That’s because I’ve been following Taylor since a very young age, and I do think she has a few albums that are legitimately very compelling, both lyrically and sonically. Even Midnights, which I thought wasn’t very good, had some elements that I thought could play out great if Taylor built them out a bit more. This album, though, does the opposite.
