Angles

This album is only held down by the third track, which is probably the least strokes song by the strokes. Yeah, the chorus and instrumental sections may be cool, but the verses are awkward, some production choices are weird, and the ending lacks the punch it needed to be impactful. It's a big mood killer after the first two tracks which are both extremely well produced, well written and full of strokes energy.
And then there's You're So Right, which as much as I like the song, it has the weirdest production and arrangements in a Strokes song by a mile, and not everything hits well (the song bangs live tho). I have my theory that those two songs and their placement on the album are the big culprits to this album initial reception by fans.
Anyway, besides that, all I have to say is that I may be byas, but most of the songs here are perfect pop rock songs. Also Games is the most underrated track in their catalog, even among fans. It's literally a perfect strokes song with a really unexpected arrangement, with giant emotional payoff on top of it.
