The Strokes - Falling out of Love

you people whine too much, this song's amazing!

Muse - Cryogen

old fuzzy aesthetic don't change the mid songwriting. The outro is impressively lackluster

EDIT: the streaming version has proper mastering and sounds miles better than the ripped "oficial-bootleg".
I don't mind autotuned Lou Reed-esque vocals. My problem with this song is the weird ass mixing and some weird line deliveries by Julian. It sounds kinda empty for the most part, and it's oddly uncalculated for a strokes song. Despite all this, the song builds up incredibly well! The ending section is awesome!

This album takes the weirdest left turn from track 3 onwards. I want to preface that I don't mean this review as a diss to the band. They are probably awesome musicians and people, and Here Comes the Rain is one of the best songs I discovered this year. I really love and cherish this song. That said, this album disappointed me, and I want to exercise my songwriting brain through this review. If anyone from the band ever read this, keep it up, you're all awesome! Sorry for talking ... read more

Shawn Everett has an immaculate touch for making awesomely dirty sounds

I certainly think this is a big step up songwriting wise from the last record. I think people are traumatized by the awful bits from the last record and became blinded by the auto-tune hate. Russian Coney Island is awesome, blue demon has some very fun polyrythms and production, and Drifto fully brings back that classical edge Julian had on Phrazes.

Muse - Unravelling

The last few records made irreparable damage to my ability to enjoy Matt's vocals

Lady Gaga - The Fame Monster

The synth tones here always blow me away, specially on Telephone. I really don't get Speechless tho. For me.it's just a bland 70's rock pastiche with unfitting production. This song production actually made me physically uncomfortable lol

The Voidz - Blue Demon

Nooow we are talking!!

Blur - Blur

Every layer of these chaotic arrangements is either blissful or amazingly punchy. I bite my tongue for all the times I've said that Blur wasn't for me, I've finally come around to loving them

Amyl and the Sniffers - Jerkin'
NR

Why are people hating on this? It's about the crude lyrics? For me it's just a well performed and well recorded punchy punk song

David Bowie - Earthling

The first leg of this album is one of the best things I've ever heard in my life

Franz Ferdinand - Audacious

Is it just me or the mixing/recording of the first section is awful? Am I going crazy? Other than that, it's a cool indie jam with a sudden Oasis/A day in the life type chorus. Cool song idea

The Voidz - Like All Before You

Wtf?? From forced "dark" sabbath-esc riffage on track 7, passing through cringe lyrics all throughout, to the will of the people type beat of track 9... I just hope this is a throw away of old ideas compilation. I also really hope that most of these lyrics were meant to be funny, but it doesn't seem to be conveyed that way.

Also, the political commentary is very basic and idealistic. "Pirates can have all their money stored, they just can't have the power no ... read more

This album works best when it stops holding it self back from it's own weirdness

Tony Molina - In the Fade

I like this album, but it's very derivative. Every other song reminds me of some other older song, whether it's Weezer, The Beatles or Fleet Wood Mac. It's so blatant that i find hard to believe it isn't on purpose, as if that's the point of the album.
Is this it?
Anyhow, despite all that, Four Sided Cell is an amazingly beautiful song

Chico Science & Nação Zumbi - Da Lama Ao Caos

If anything, listening to a metal album from the 2000s that isn't overtly edited to "perfection" is nice. You can feel the people playing these songs. There are some clear tiny sloppy moments that they could easily edit out, overwrite with another take, or adjust with automation, but they just give a big middle finger to the industry standard and leave the full performance to the final master. The drums also sound 100% real (no triggers). If this was entirely recorded without any use ... read more

Maximum Balloon - Maximum Balloon

I'd really like to listen to this, but it's only on apple music for some unfathomable reason

The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds
NR

I don't get it, except where I do and it's one of the most emotional and heartfelt things I ever heard. But most of the time it just doesn't click. I think time may have made some of these harmonies and counterpoint ideas overused to the point of commonplace. Production and arrangements are immaculate tho. I can't really say anything bad about this album, it just doesn't move me most of the time.

Edit.: actually, I can! The bass on the stereo mix of Sloop John B sounds bad lol

On ultravox's review of Gorillaz - Cracker Island
"Naah, o Gorillaz modernizado que a galera comenta mesmo é o Song Machine, que vale muuuito a pena ouvir. Mas assim, é uma coleção de singles. Podem até ser singles bem variados, mas são desconexos. Da muito impressão que depois do Humanz o Damon perdeu uma parte da ambição que ele tinha com o Gorillaz nos anos 2000."
On Toasterqueen12's review of The Shaggs - Philosophy of the World
"This was a great read my dude! I totally get what you mean from my listen. It's painfull and uncanny, yet very intrigging, for the fact that this was made by girls who clearly never had much connection with common musical structure and music in general. Also, these songs aren't symply random, they have structure, melodies and even hooks sometimes. People saying this isn't unique are unwiling to engage with the album. The fact that they composed, wrote, arranged, recorded, mixed and mastered 12 whole songs for these girls to play is absurd! This is what happens when you try to force kids being kids into a product, and is painfully unsettling. For instanse, after listenning to some of this, put some good old White Light/White Heat to play. The Velvets instantly sound much less caotic and fup after the perspective shift, at least to me. This means that are things being done in these songs that really mess with our heads in an unique way, even if unintentionaly."
On Lola_Ceunen's review of Red Hot Chili Peppers - Return of the Dream Canteen
"The drums were 100% not done by a computer, even My Cigarette is probably just an old drum machine. This album and Unlimited Love were recorded and mixed 100% with analogue equipment, very far away from computers, directly into tape."
On reptilia0000's review of The Stooges - Raw Power
"I really liked your review, very honest opinion. I personally dislike this album, I think Bowie production really misses the hand. It does sound raw, but not very powerful, specially side by side with their previous album, Fun House. That said, I think i can shed some light on why this is rated so highly. You have to consider that this came out in 73, recorded in 72. This isn't a punk album, it's a proto-punk album. Im fact, it can be argued that this is the very last proto-punk album, since it's influence is enough to mark it as the kick-starting point of the punk movement as a whole."
On reptilia0000's review of Pixies - Indie Cindy
"For what is worth, at least the text that came out of all this was very entertaining to read lol"
