I absolutely love the sound of this, the instrumentals are all so cool and the musicians are so talented. unfortunately, i cannot say the same thing about the writing. these lyrics sound like they were written by a 32-year-old cosplaying as an 18-year-old goth feminist type beat (not saying feminist messaging in songwriting is a bad thing at all, but it feels so fake, commercial, and tiktok artist-core here). the pure strength of that british accent does not help either.
i agree with the title, only a monster would put the airpod dying sound in a beat
is it that hard to not be on pills when recording music? Some interesting beats (typical rap song 12, drug story) and fun song titles, but these vocals are atrocious.
zach bryan has a great voice and his lyrics are very well crafted, but there is very little variety in production (aside from the avant garde rock ending to oak island which was super cool) and i absolutely hate the use of harmonica
just on the first couple listens this sound so much like a parannoul album (not a bad thing by any means, very full mix and similar vocal inflections, but like sky hundred also came out this year…) i like the hyperpop elements still present in her sound, and i can absolutely see this score increasing with more listens.
her writing romanticizes romance, and it’s so comforting and beautiful
i feel the same way about this album as i did with Eggers’ Nosferatu; a dark and haunting look at how love and death are interconnected that’s very well-made from a technical aspect, but super monotone, too drawn out, and not much that leaves me with a desire to return to it (other than amber waves, that song is beautiful and perfectly exemplifies everything I want in ethel cain’s work)
raw, dark, and strong. the drummer went absolutely stupid mode on this album they sound so good
kurtains has way too good of a voice to be making shitty dance music. make more songs like gone fishing!
cool instrumentals but there’s a reason why i don’t use a 3DS to listen to music, there’s such thing as too much compression jack
Pulitzer-winning poet Matthew Peter “Lil Mabu” DeLuca returns with some of the most heartfelt, deep, and introspective songs ever written. It’s wonderful that he’s using his platform to uplift smaller, unknown artists like Dominique “Lil Baby” Jones and Maxie “Fivio Foreign” Ryles III. To get into a little bit of lyrical analysis, I would like to point you towards one of my favorite stanzas. “I’m with the white kids then the gang, ... read more
i can’t even imagine being on this big of an ego trip. a couple cool beats and burn is a good song but if i never heard anything from this again my life would be great
I found MJ Lenderman in my shower the other day, just scrubbing at the drain. I was very confused until I heard this album, and now I want to move out. what a cunt(ry rock artist) (she’s leaving you is a good fuckin song tho)
Close enough, welcome back Leonard Cohen! So many of the negative reviews on this album are people who thought someone would name a heavy metal album “Heavy Metal” like no what. This thing is awesome, haven’t been able to stop listening to it. Cameron’s vocals are a little off-putting at first, but he uses his voice in an interesting way throughout this project. One of my favorite examples of this is at the start of the song $0, where Cameron opens up with warbly, ... read more
fun little city pop album, the bass lines all slap pretty hard. instruments all sound really clean, well engineered project. unfortunately, none of the tracks really stood out above the rest, and although it’s well made, not really a genre I’m too inclined to listen to regularly and this doesn’t really compare to a lot of Japanese city pop I’ve heard.
