Kill Bill: The Rapper - I THINK I FOUND THE END
90

this is resin on steroids. i LOVE resin, and it is so disjointed, but i'd be a liar if it didn't have a stinker or two on there. it cut all of the fat off of resin and kept it as consistent as possible. disjointed, sad, frustrated. bill does so well at keeping you anxious and on edge during this album. all of the vaporwave inspired instrumentals were so good. i was head banging to so many of the tracks. i'm very happy that bill still has it. this is tied with ramona for his best ... read more

Modest Mouse - An Eraser and A Maze

disappointing release from modest mouse unfortunately. since their brush with mainstream media in 2004, i think modest mouse has been on a sad spiral. we were dead was a great album but everything after that just feels like they're trying to make good news part 2. this album is as close as we're going to get.

to me, i think it all boils down to aesthetic. this album appeals to those that really enjoy "good news". the whole aesthetic modest mouse has adopted is what i call ... read more

American Football - American Football

just like LP3, this one disappointing. while it does have darker, more interesting lyrics, at times, it just comes off as immature. a shame too, as i was really excited, especially since it had been 7 years since the last one.

Ween - All Request Live

very VERY good live set from ween. all 5 parts of the stallion? actually listenable pod tracks? the pizza hut song? they were on fire during this set.

Red Vox - Another Light

i loved this album years ago. i used to be HUGE into vinny's streams (i still am, just not as much as i was 6 years ago). as i take off my rose tinted glasses, i realize that this album isn't that good. don't get me wrong, vinny's writing is definitely blossoming here but, the odd production choices keep it from being the best it can. songs like memories lie having the talk box on it, rub your eyes, forgive and forget just being oddities. however songs like memento mori ... read more

Green Day - Insomniac

green day at their most furious. i still stand by green day's opera stuff isn't that good, and i always point to this album as being great. between having the stress of following up an album that sold over 10 million copies, becoming fathers and having more responsibilities, they turned their frustrations into one of my favorite punk records. billie's lyrics and riffs are so angry and sadistic, it makes me grin. mike dirnt has some of the funkiest fills in all of green day's ... read more

Rav - BET BET

this single is not for me. a lot of rav's recent stuff hasn't been good in my opinion. i've been a fan for over 7 years and it bums me out how rav has fallen off. i understand the whole "gambling and advertizing thing = bad" but rav couldn't have done it in a more engaging manner? this just sounds like he wants to go to bed. i'm so tired of the whisper verses from rav. there's so many different rappers that really feel what they say and sound as engaging ... read more

Frank Zappa - Hot Rats

i've been meaning to get into zappa for the longest time and i think this album has gotten me to want to listen to him more. this is an insane jazz album, and the drumming and guitar work is a testament to the era i think. just really good prog jazz. loved it

NR

man. what an album. i'm not too deep into this kind of metal, just because i personally think they'll all sound samey. however, this album definitely sticks out. the drums are insane. i love blast beats and this album doesn't disappoint. the riffs are heavy and fast too. i can't really name any standout tracks admittedly. i enjoyed it.

3 Inches of Blood - Fire Up the Blades

yeah this album wasn't too good. the high pitched vocals were so annoying. everything was samey. i have not much to say about this album. it sounded really generic for the most part. i enjoy this genre! but this album was not good.

Simon & Garfunkel - Bridge over Troubled Water
90

truely a beautiful album. i loved this album. it reminds me of their contemporaries in the genre (i'd like to say steely dan and early hall & oates?). the instrumentals were all lush and beautiful. i can see why this album is their most played.

el condor pasa is peak.

Lesbian Bed Death - I Use My Powers for Evil
90

i love the aesthetics of goth music and this album is no different. lots of clunky, heavy riffs. and damn they are good. the lyrics are also really cool. enjoyable album that i definitely see myself coming back to!!

twenty one pilots - Clancy

i did not like trench, as we all know. my roommate and i did a relisten in our dorm. i enjoyed it a little more. scaled and icy was fine. i liked some tracks but not many.

then clancy happens. whatever this sound is. i want more. it's a nice mix of blurryface and the more poppier sound of scaled and icy. tracks like backslide are nice and airy. the production is SOOOO GOOD. i love this track. vignette is easily my favorite tho. the piano, strings, funky instrumental. jesus man. i love ... read more

SOPHIE - OIL OF EVERY PEARL'S UN-INSIDES

oh my god. i get it. i love this album, and knowing the background of the album makes it even better. it sounds loud, noisy, disjointed. like sophie is trying to find herself and what she wants to do in life. i love the soundscapes she makes and it's no wonder she gets all of this hype. the ambient intro on faceshopping reminded me of a lot of drain gang sounds. then it goes into that loud, weird sound. it reminds me of 100 gecs or some of kanye's production on yeezus. then you have ... read more

i probably got the most enjoyment out of this album on my 4th time of listening to it. it's been brought up in the other servers music group rotations pretty much everytime. and it deserves that praise. it is a long sad decent into madness. this album is insanely beautiful, and the instrumentation is great. the lyrics are great, i actually ended up liking the 2nd disc more than the first half admittedly. the 2nd half dives more into the "mental aspect" of life, dealing with being ... read more

Faith & Disease - Insularia
NR

this is a very pretty album i definitely see myself going back to as the months get colder. the perhaps...persephone, yellow dress and space song are my favorite tracks easily. they remind me of modest mouse & duster, with their twangy sad sounding guitars. violet li falls into this category too, reminding me of the intro to planet caravan by black sabbath. at times there were tracks that reminded me of souvlaki by slowdive, especially marie don't sleep in your makeup. it's a very ... read more

Dream Theater - Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory
NR

this sounds insanely clean, that's what perks my ear. strange deja vu is really funky and really cool sounding. getting huge rush vibes from this, my good pal and i were talking about dream theater and how the vocalist (james labrie) has geddy lee vibes to him. fatal tragedy is a heavy, sounding track and i really like how it sounds. i will say, i think it is very hard for musicians to keep a narrative going, and it wasn't that strong here. i didn't care for it. i thought it was ... read more

weyes blood - titanic rising

very beautiful album. has some great instrumentation!! i wished i had more to say. i reminded me of bands like supertramp from the 70's i liked it but not a lot stood out to me.

fav tracks: wild time, everyday, andromeda

Geese - Getting Killed
100

i enjoyed geese's discography up to this point. i heard heavy metal by cameron winter late last year and i really enjoyed it! the most obvious thing that everyone is going to say about this album is cameron's voice. it's deep, it's so weird but I LOVE IT. it's what made his solo album so compelling. hearing his wailing deep voice over these elegant old school instrumentals talking about how god is real (god IS real. he's actually real. not even kidding).

Third Eye Blind - Third Eye Blind
NR

great emotional roller coaster. everyone knows semi-charmed life or jumper but, MAN. the album is really good other than those two tracks. graduate is a hard rock track, how's it going to be starts the transition to the sad stuff, it's just a damn good album.
