The looming question when this was announced was always going to be "did they really have 2 albums worth of quality, or could they have just made one great 40 minute album out of the material as a whole."

Conceptually, I think the double album release is justified. Just. Hum of Hurt shares a similar soundscape to Love is Not Enough, but explores the more broody, sludgy essence that reared its head minimally during songs from LINE like "Gilded Cage", and lacks the ferocity ... read more

After the success of the recent Peripheral Vision tour there was a hope they'd get themselves together and recapture what they were and what fans wanted for them. At this point we may have to accept they're never getting it back.

After the disappointment of Knowing What You Know Now and the hiatus that felt like they'd never return, this is honestly surprisingly decent. It's no Weird and Wonderful, but the intention is definitely there, and the poppy stylings from their second album are toned down and well placed this time around. Becca still has her chops and unique vocal flailings.

Dir en Grey are a weird one. In the mid 2000s they had some absolute home runs with Vulgar, Withering to Death, and The Marrow of a Bone, which I still contest as being the best of the post 2005, "modern" era Metalcore albums that ended up with the absolute dross thereafter with the Bring Me revolution.
