Poppy's gloves are still off on Empty Hands, which feels like a straightforward continuation of 2024's Negative Spaces, rather than a stylistic pivot (as she's been doing on each album in her catalog thus far).

DIY
Defiant in its ambition but never disingenuous or forced.

At the end of the day, "Empty Hands" sounds like Poppy doing exactly what she wants, without overthinking it. When she's fired up and emotionally invested, her music hits on another level, and this album captures that energy from start to finish.

Dork
In a musical landscape preoccupied with authenticity tests and genre boundaries, ‘Empty Hands’ feels unconcerned with both. It is a direct and emotionally driven album from an artist who understands her tools and trusts her instincts.

Kerrang!
This is what it sounds like when Poppy is properly in her element. When she’s got something that lights her on fire, she’s unstoppable, and this is how she’s been able to write possibly her best songs yet.

Pitchfork
The versatile metalcore singer amplifies all her strengths on her seventh album—it’s heavier, savvier, and quirkier than ever.

Clash
‘Empty Hands’ finds Poppy at the height of her confidence, transforming restless energy into something both precise and unpredictable. The record balances weight with playfulness, heaviness with nuance, and intensity with reflection, showing how far she’s come while still chasing new territory.

The Needle Drop

Empty Hands is a slight step down from Negative Spaces.

Spectrum Culture

Poppy has always been one to incorporate metal into her weird pop ideas, but on Empty Hands it often feels as though her own concepts take a backseat to shiny radio metal necessities.

This isn't a djent album by any means, but it has too much in common with modern djent, metalcore and/or alternative metal to ever really push any boundaries or give the listener anything to sink their teeth into.

ACOUSTIC ART

When it comes to Poppy, the very concept of Rock is harshly questioned, and I myself wonder if I'll ever find the words to describe her next step... yet this is precisely the fascinating and mysterious side of this girl.

An insatiable creative drive has fueled Poppy's surreal ascent through countless corners of the Art and Music worlds.
Each of her projects so far has revealed a different fragment of a true visionary, indifferent to genre, unconcerned with convention, ... read more

The Jordan-Fish-production-bubble is about to burst, I can feel it. It's such a squeaky clean record, it's lost the essence of what made "I Disagree" or "Negative Spaces" special in the first place. It's a hard thing to say, but I can't help but feel Poppy is trying to please too many people with this release. Even songs like "Unravel" and "Eat The Hate" feel so restrained, despite the screams and heavy vocals. It doesn't feel ... read more

The sound becomes a little reppetitive overtime, and it becomes a little monotonous. But there are songs that are the highlights, and those are PURE. GOLD. LIKE WTFFFF THE INTRO AND THE OUTRO???? EAT THE HATE???? THOSE ARE FR SOME OF THE BEST SONGS THIS YEAR.

Mashup of a more cutesy version of Avril Lavigne and Bring Me The Horizon
She honestly scares me a little bit.

I definetly liked it coming from an metal album, and i dont really enjoy metal and its not definetly my favourite genre, its also my first time hearing a metal album, the only thing i hate about metal is the growled screams.
