An incredible album by one of the greatest metal bands of all time. Everything I look for in a metal album: great and varied vocals, groovy riffs, slow sludgy parts, and enough experimentation and variety to keep me interested for a long period of time. Seriously this album has some of the best riffs in sludge metal. One thing that makes this album so great is you can tell all the members had different influences but all of them work so well together. Dax’s vocals were very inspired by ... read more
Kind of sounds inspired by the more atmospheric parts of Knocked Loose, along with more emo elements, especially in the chorus. It’s good but Death is Little More was almost perfect, and this doesn’t live up to that as much. Final breakdown is sick though, and Only Endless is a really nice callout. Excited for the new album, but definitely not expecting it to be as good as DILM.
Times of Grace is a post metal experience. Listening to Neurosis, specifically this record, is the sonic equivalent of being trapped in a claustrophobic space with no way out, but it’s a super enjoyable album. As essentially the progenitors of atmospheric sludge metal, this album is both of those things: atmospheric and sludgy. But the thing that separates Neurosis from many atmosludge/post-metal artists is what their atmosphere feels like. Bands like Isis and Jesu use post-metal as a ... read more
Personally my least favorite Pearl Jam album. It’s a little generic and forgettable at times, but a somewhat fun listen. Nothing as it Seems is actually amazing though. 10/10 song. It’s their first album with Matt though so the drumming is gonna be sick, and it has some of PJs most proggy moments, but it still doesn’t live up to the rest of their catalogue.
Pretty good cover of a classic 90s track. Nothing groundbreaking but Poppy’s voice fits Hand in My Pocket pretty well. Even as a more metal oriented person that got into Poppy from her metal stuff, it’s nice to see her do some stuff outside of metal because she doesn’t seem like someone who wants to be confined to the modern alt metal style she’s been doing lately (which I do really like though)
The current wave that started getting big around 2024 of crazy pissed off beatdown metalcore bands is my favorite thing to happen in music this decade. Bands like Boundaries, Knocked Loose, Bodysnatcher, Orphan, and Spite all have this insane rage filled energy that brings back rawness and honesty to a scene that seems to be mostly devoid of it lately. You Won’t Go is my favorite metalcore album of all time, but Death Is Little More comes in at a close second, and they came out in the ... read more
