Tiny Mix Tapes

Jesu's music is intense, utilizing atmospheric effects to carry the weight of the album. To go a step further would be to call it a doom metal album met with the heady aesthetic of My Bloody Valentine. But contrary to this comparison, Jesu meets us with an emotionally charged affection that is still rarely heard in guitar-heavy albums.

His sense of space and three-dimensionality is at times uncanny. And for those of us who admire the patient beauty of a grimy Luxurious Bags or incandescent Jรณhann Jรณhansson, there ought to be more than enough intense, flat-lined passages of untouched drone to escape the rushed feeling of a pop beeline.

Broadrickโ€™s new statement is a sophisticated step forward and shows a tremendous progression for this already legendary metal pioneer.

Jesu's trip is a dark and lonely one, but those who survive the path through darkness are granted a glimpse of the light at journey's end.

Where the grandiose noise draws you back

Jesu is an interruption of the faux-security you feel
Nothing on Jesu is here to make you feel ... read more

The perfect mix of metal and ambience - so many others have tried, so many others have failed.

When it gets heavy it’s by turns thunderous and crunchy.

The post-rock and drone textures are truly seamless components. Masterful.

This album was beautiful. That’s a strange word to describe a metal album as but once you get into post metal/doomgaze stuff you realize how beautiful metal can be. This album is essentially all I want on the more chill side of Post-metal. The vocals are very reminiscent of shoegaze and post-rock vocals in the sense that they are very sorrowful and almost buried in the mix. The guitar tone is so heavy and along with the slow rhythmic riffs, it feels tectonic, like an earthquake. The ... read more

Guitars and the progression throughout is really strong and spacious, the drums fit the atmosphere well. I love the drone paired with the guitars and I love the directions that the production each track takes. I saw this on someone’s top 5 on their list of their favorite albums and decided to take a listen, it’s not as good as they say but it is still worth the listen for sure, I can see why they can like it so much but at the same time not really, but only because the vocals are ... read more
