Honestly, I'm not a big fan of Devin Townsend. He's a great songwriter and singer, but his music is just off my taste, way too grand and epic. Accelerated Evolution seems to be exception since I really enjoyed it. There're some Deftones-ish alt metal and shoegaze elements, Tool-ish polyrhythms. All together it sounds quite good, particularly the first half of the album.

Such a great release, an although it is not Devin Townsend at his most creative and adventurous I would argue it is his best vocal performance especially on Deadhead and with tight drumming and great guitar work, Accelerated Evolution holds itself as a great metal record.

While a bit lacking in depth and creativity, Devin still pulls a great record out of his hat of many zany tricks, giving off some incredible performances, not only vocally (Sweet Jesus Deadhead) but also giving fantastic neck work on the guitar. (Sweet Jesus Away) It can become tedious at times, and it is for the type that doesn't mind the odd wank section on the guitar, but if you lock onto it's groove, then it's a very solid release from one of metals most creative frontmen.

Devin Townsend is truly a musical genius. Everything he’s ever made just pushes metal into directions I didn’t even think were possible. This album is one of his most cohesive, less all over the place projects, and while I like his insanity, the sound this record takes for most of its duration is just amazing. This record is very shoegaze influenced, with some great heavy riffs and fantastic songwriting. However, the standouts here are 100% Devin’s vocals and the production. ... read more
