Without a doubt, Townsend still gets tons of mileage out of the uniquely philosophical and musical worlds he's crafted, making PowerNerd another superbly entertaining and intellectually, emotionally fulfilling addition to his catalog.

For now, this is another sizeable serving of greatness, aimed straight into the heart of the nerd-o-sphere. Listen and be joyful.

Distorted Sound
You may not venture back to this release as often as his other works but for the sheer willpower that was required to get this release over the line, that alone deserves 45 minutes of your time.

Kerrang!
If you’re looking for divisive, multi-toned prog metal you’ll find little of that here – closer Ruby Quaker has a tongue-in-cheek blast therein – but should you appreciate the less eccentric side of this polymath’s output, plug in and power up.

Devin is back!

Despite a few of the tracks having the classic HELL YEAH BROTHER riffs, Devin always makes the sound his own, and he always adds a stunningly beautiful atmosphere. I don't know how he does it, but he was always able to create such a cloudy "floating" vibe, even in his heavier tracks.

I do enjoy the most chill and atmoshperic songs on here, but I think all of the tracks are up to par honestly. Just glad Devin's back. I also appreciate the vulnerability in ... read more

Even at his most laid back and normal, Devin Townsend is still more weird than like 90% of other musicians

A really solid entry into Devin's sprawling discography. Devin said that he wanted this album to be more stripped back and simple than previous projects, if that's what he was going for I think he did a good job. There aren't any bad songs here but not really any truly great ones either (with one exception). It's overall a really fun, yet admittedly basic ride for Dev. Production wise this album sounds a bit muddier than Dev's last 2 albums too.

Glacier and Younger Lover are two of my favourite Devin songs. One of the most unique and underrated artists out there

Devin Townsend's best work, in all honesty. The most concise I have seen him make his songs. There are multiple songs though that do not make much sense to me as they are quite weak and do not compliment the album, the theme is cool and interesting but he really doesn't build upon it in any meaningful way and tends to make jokes in the music where he really doesn't need to. It's just quite disappointing
