With non-stop high energy 90's rap vibes, this is the most fun I've had listening to an album in a long time.
This album has everything I've come to to expect from Chromeo; Funky disco instrumentals, groovy melodies and playfully flirtatious lyrics that all combine for a very fun experience. It's a good sign to me when a song can elicit a verbal reaction from me, and this happened at several points throughout the album, either going "oooh" at some instrumental moments or laughing out loud at some lyrics.
Unprocessed brings their metal influences to the forefront of this album with a more than healthy dose of screaming, breakdowns and blast beats. This album has a ton of really cool ideas, but not all of them feel naturally integrated, with some songs feeling like they've just decided to be a different song for a minute or so. A debut album from a new indie rock band, it's a little lacking in terms of polish, but at the same time the rougher edges of it make it pretty charming. The sound on display here makes me excited to see what this band does next.
As the album where Foals establishes their new sound going forward, there are some growing pains that are noticeable in this album, particularly with the vocals, but all the ideas on display are interesting and enjoyable.
