Chevelle has successfully put together a super atmospheric album with Bright As Blasphemy. The production of this album is next level and really turns this solid project into quite a good one. I'm glad that after over two decades of work, Chevelle still has more left to give to rock.
As much as I love Rise Against, Ricochet is just far too bland and disinteresting for me to want to ever return to it. At least we still have a ton of old, great stuff to look back on!
After the BRUTAL backlash that came with the release of The Big Day, seeing Chance return to form a bit on STAR LINE is a pretty pleasant surprise. Despite a noticeable lack of energy compared to some of his early mixtapes, I still thought this was plenty enjoyable. If nothing else, I'm glad Chance took criticisms of past projects and turned it into motivation. I'm glad to see him still with a fire to make music.
As with pretty much every Gunna album at this point, The Last Wun feels like I'm listening to the same song over and over again. Like usual, there's nothing new to evaluate from this release and, despite Gunna's really solid flow throughout, there's nothing from this album that I found interesting.
As wonderful as The Forever Story was, it was always going to be a tough act to follow, but damn if JID didn't nearly hit that benchmark again with God Does Like Ugly. As he grows in popularity, JID continues to maintain his hunger, determination, and creativity and it's apparent throughout this project that there is no complacency in sight.
Where JID falls slightly behind in God Does Like Ugly compared to The Forever Story is in its artistic approach. God Does Like Ugly feels a ... read more
I am SO disappointed in this album. As a big Travis Scott fan, I'll always have high expectations for his projects because I know what he's capable of, but this left such a poor taste in my mouth. It's horribly mixed and produced, the lyrics are mind-numbingly boring and uninteresting, and there is NOTHING unique or innovative done in Jackboys 2. The repetitiveness of each track got old so fast and it became a chore to finish listening through the entire project. In addition to a ... read more
A disappointing release all around, even as someone who isn't even much of a Saint Jhn fan to begin with and had low expectations.
I don't think I've heard Tee Grizzley change his sound much at all since I first discovered him. It's becoming so bland and hard to listen to. Will not be returning to this album.
A Futuristic Summa is a really fun listen that doesn't do too much while giving a great sense of nostalgia to that 2000s style ATL trap sound. I can understand if it's not your taste, but if you expected something other than a really lighthearted project that was an effort to give fans something they hadn't heard in a while, I really don't know what to tell you. I had a great time listening to this.
As someone who has stuck with Quadeca since his early YouTube days, I am really proud and delighted to see the strides he's made over the years, trying new styles, experimenting with different sounds, and overall listening to and evolving from criticism. I know Quadeca has put a lot of work into improving his production style and I think Vanisher, Horizon Scraper is the culmination of a lot of work he's put in.
Vanisher, Horizon Scraper is gritty, moody, emotional and brooding. ... read more
Despite the really solid flows and delivery at times, I just can't shake some of the corny stuff Joyner Lucas is up to in ADHD 2. I think this is a pretty poor effort at trying to make something deep. I thought the skits were so poorly done and placed in weird spots. While I do think Joyner is a pretty talented rapper, I don't think even that was going to save this album.
I cannot believe Puddle of Mudd is still making music after Ubiquitous. That album was one of the worst scores I had ever given and somehow, despite being a good bit better than Ubiquitous, Kiss The Machine is ALSO one of the worst scores I have on record.
This being my introduction to Panda Bear, I thought his music was going to be really convoluted and intricate, perhaps too hard to get into, but I found Sinister Grift was pretty good at balance its intricacies well with a welcoming and enticing first few tracks that hooked me in. I was surprised at the amount of really catchy hooks in this album despite the substance being pretty serious and intimate. I want to check out more of this guy and try to get a bit better grasp on what he's ... read more
As someone who listened to a good bit of Pop Evil growing up, I was excited to hear how the band had evolved over the years after I had not thought to check out their new music for a while. Unfortunately, their new album "What Remains" did not quite meet my expectations I had set. While it's decent at times, I don't think it's anything more than fairly generic heavier rock that occasionally leans in to some solid metalcore tropes.
Freddie Gibbs has come forward with yet another class album with Alfredo 2. Despite the lack of variety in beats and flows, I never really got tired or bored listening to this project. When you've mastered your "lane" so to speak, you can recycle the sound as often as you'd like and I wouldn't get tired of it. There's not a lot of substance to Alfredo 2, but as I've said before, there doesn't always need to be to entertain me. Sometimes I just want to ... read more
There are very few country artists who almost have a requirement to evolve their sound over time than Tyler Childers does. With the release of Purgatory in 2017, Childers reeled a lot of fans in from all over the place with a really unique sound that modern country doesn't get to see much of anymore.
That being said, the style of Purgatory has a shelf life and it couldn't be recycled, sonically, over and over again expecting similar results. That's why I am so happy to hear what ... read more
Yet another really solid addition into Little Simz's discography. Really loved the laid back vibes that the production of Lotus presented despite the really intricate and conscious content being discussed lyrically.
