A very solid indie-rock/spoken word LP. Raw and authentic to its core.
Truly a special album to listen to in the context. David Berman's debut. Rough around the edges but wholly genuine. "Trains Across the Sea" is one of the best songs he ever wrote.
One of the few albums I will describe as totally perfect. Not a single moment is wasted on this record. The instruments, like the vocals, the aesthetics, are stripped back to bare essentials, throwing us into this caustic mire of depression and foreboding pain that grips the listener and tortures them as the narrative progresses.
Pinback at some of their best. Unforgettably unique sound, built on the voices of Smith and Crow and layered with textured, tensile guitars and bass. Definitely a must listen to for any Pinback fan.
Clever indie rock, with some subtle but substantive melodies and charming lyrics and tones overall. Definitely an overlooked album in the indie sphere.
