Lincoln - Baby Take My Acid
74

This is better than the first single, Everything is Wrong, but I can't help from missing the old sound. I think the writing is more engaging than the previous single and I appreciate the higher energy here.

Lincoln - Everything is Wrong
68

As somebody who really loved A Constant State of Ohio, this isn't really what I wanted out of this. Constant State had such an intriguing sound, and this is pretty forgettable. Nothing bad, and nice to listen to while it's on, but just forgettable.

Panic! at the Disco - A Fever You Can't Sweat Out
79

Panic! at the Disco’s debut, A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out, is not objectively good, but it is an album I find more high points than low and return to enough to warrant a high score. The energy is consistently very high and is more experimental than it’s given credit for. In a sea of generic pop-punk that filled the early 2000s, Panic! (especially Ryan Ross) was leading the charge in detailed and specific writing, which typically falls over simple electronics and punchy guitars. ... read more

Oliver Tree & Little Big - Welcome To The Internet
7

Where I can find enjoyment in the failures of AJR’s “The Click”, I find little to no joy here. Some of Oliver’s verses have good enough melodies, but every contribution from Little Big is abhorrent.

Tolerable Tracks: Rampampam (begrudgingly)
Least Tolerable Tracks: Turn It Up, You’re Not There

The Internet: 1.5/10
Turn It Up (feat. Tommy Cash) .5/10
Rampampam: 2/10
You’re Not There: 1/10

Welcome To The Internet: .7/10

Oliver Tree - Cowboy Tears
24

Before dropping his 2020 album, Ugly is Beautiful, Oliver Tree advertised it as his final album, a promise I wish he would’ve kept. While not one of the best albums of the decade, Ugly is Beautiful is an album I return to every once in a while and enjoy to this day, so imagine my disappointment when the deluxe version was released. Now double said disappointment with the release of his Welcome To The Internet EP, and finally triple it with the release of this most recent album.

Where his ... read more

Gerard Way - Hesitant Alien
80

Separating himself from his My Chemical Romance roots, Gerard Way brings a solid EP filled with hazy atmospheres, fun hooks, and powerful songs.
It’s hard not to compare this project to some of his prior work, but Hesitant Alien is different enough in its sound and structures, that listening to the album offers a different experience than you’d get from even MCR’s brightest work. This album doesn’t tackle larger-than-life concepts like death, deals with the devil, or ... read more

Jakey - Pine Barrens
88

While heavy and emotional drops aren’t something I’m typically looking for in Jakey’s music, Pine Barrens gives me something I didn’t know I needed. ROMCOM is showing great potential and I can’t wait for its release.

AJR - The Click
11

This album has become iconic for all the wrong reasons. Consistently listed as one of the worst albums ever, AJR’s 2018 LP, The Click is filled with obnoxious instrumentals and pseudo-relatable lyrics, working to pander to anybody under the age of 22. The theme of this album (and all of their albums following it) is the fear of growing up and their popularity, which is sloppily intermixed with songs about not smoking weed and not being allowed to rap. But despite all of its flaws, there ... read more

Jhariah - A BEGINNER'S GUIDE TO FAKING YOUR DEATH
79

Combining the theatrics of early Panic! at the Disco, and the powerful vocal and melodic presence of My Chemical Romance, Jhariah continues to improve his production and songwriting on A Beginner’s Guide To Faking Your Death.

This EP is a great sonic improvement from Jhariah’s previous project, showing more impressive and satisfying mixes. Whether this is from the addition of Cole Racer in drums and production, or just general growth, it’s a welcome change, as everything ... read more

The Brobecks - Violent Things
92

Is The Brobecks’ Violent Things one of the best albums ever? No, at times it can drag a little, and fills an excess of time with instrumentals. Is Violent Things one of my personal favorites? Absolutely.

Violent Things showcases a perfect blend of electronic, indie rock, and punk elements, which are made that much better by clever lyricism from Dallon Weekes. This project is very sonically consistent but manages to show diversity in its different structures, tones, and tiny details, ... read more
