Learned about this record from the holder collab, and for my first real exposure to them I am not impressed. As an overall experience, this creates a very distinct vibe but a lot of it blends together into a homogeneous soup. I didn't find many of the songs memorable on an individual level. A majority of the breakdowns feel half-assed/generic and the actual construction of most songs is pretty bland. Even if I didn't like it much, I respect the final track the most for standing out ... read more
Rural, intense, MORTIFYING.
One of the most immersive and visceral listening experiences of my life. Listening to this felt like a series of gut punches, including the lingering feeling between strikes. Converge not only beats down on the listener, but also gives small breaks in between the chaos. Listened to this album for the first time last year on the day I left an ED ward. While not fantastic, that moment of hearing Doomed has stuck with me. While I can't say I'm in love with this album, it has made an impression on me and definitely leaves more of an impression than Sempiternal.

Overrated and (when combined with their next record) paved the way for the worst parts of modern metalcore, but simultaneously an unforgettable listen? The more melodramatic note this record strikes didn't really hit for me when I first listened to it, and honestly, it still doesn't. HOWEVER, there are undeniably some gems in here. And as a turning point in both BMTH's discography and metalcore as a whole, 100% worth a listen.
Fav tracks: Shadow Moses
Easily the best thing BMTH has ever made. I love how raw the vocals are and the riffs are sooooo good. Visions especially is so catchy. This and their sophomore record were some of the first metal-adjacent records I ever listened to, and they've gotten me through some very dark times. I owe a TON to this album.
