Listening to this and Heaven or Las Vegas back to back has been one of the greatest experiences I’ve had with music. Both are absolutely beautiful albums that I’d consider to be perfect. This one is from a band that I’ve listened to once before. Agaetis Byrjun is one of my favorite albums ever made and I thought it was about time that I checked out more albums from the band’s discography. This is their second highest rated album and it didn’t disappoint my very high expectations at all. I was expecting something that sounded exactly like the album that came before it (which is not a bad thing at all) but I was very pleasantly surprised to hear that it had some pretty significant differences in sound. This album sounds much more melancholic than agaetis. The climaxes are much more gradual than on agaetis (at least untill the final three tracks) which has very abrupt climaxes. This album lets its songs simmer and reach their climaxes at their own pace. I think the best example of this is in untitled 3. It has a simple piano riff that builds on itself through the song and it sounds phenomenal. Later on in the album it does start to sound a bit more like agaetis which I think works very well. That album is very climactic and to have all the songs here that sound similar to it at the end of the album makes it feel almost cinematic. That’s a word that I used in my review for agaetis and I absolutely think it applies here too, especially on the closer. This album has one of the best closers of all time. Popplagio is the best song on the album and probably the second best song I’ve heard from this band so far. It is beyond beautiful, just like everything else this band makes. It is the perfect way to close this album. I am very excited to check out more from this band and if the rest of their albums are anywhere near as good as these two I genuinely think this could be a top 5 band of all time. They are pretty much the only people make music that parallels the beauty of In Rainbows for me and I really hope that applies to the rest of their discography.
