( ) is an unequivocal masterpiece that defies explanation. To critique it is to risk misinterpreting it ... An absolutely stunning album, and an undeniable work of genius.

Alternative Press
Some of the most evocative music of this century.

There are enough positives to overlook its uninventive vocals and to concentrate on the music. It's not often an album of this caliber is released; the fact that Sigur Rós would unveil such an album is very admirable.

Sigur Rós prove themselves as fantastic producers as well as musicians. It serves as a great introduction to the genre and still, after fully plunging into the limited world of post-rock, it stands out among its best albums.

Entertainment Weekly
The Icelandic quartet again create an ethereal stir with sparse, atmospheric melodies and a falsetto wail, often recalling the sonic swirl of Stateside slow-core acts like Low.

AllMusic
The fact that the emotional extremes are few and far between makes the album difficult to wade through -- its impact would've been tripled with about half an hour lopped off, but where to begin?

SPIN

On (), the band steer their ghost ship into darker waters, erecting a vast, austere cathedral of sound, then sticking around to score a funeral mass inside.

Rolling Stone
This impressive follow-up sounds remarkably similar -- it's just packaged more pretentiously.

Uncut
The music here is intimate yet remote.

( ) has the perfect mix of paralysis and fluidity that makes for a remarkable album.

Q Magazine
A masterpiece of bombed orchestral elegance, at once expansive and intense.

Hot Press

This nameless little opus is a thing of brittle, starry beauty.

But despite its standout moments, the repetition of the album's central lyric and the relative lack of innovation in contrast to Ágætis byrjun can't deliver on such claims, and ( ) simply winds up a decent follow-up from a band who has already proven themselves capable of much, much more.

NME

There are moments of transcendent loveliness on ‘( )’ ... But there are also passages of exquisitely crafted New Wage waffle which outstay their welcome.

50
Slant Magazine
While it might be free of meaning (and irony), it’s chock-full of pretense.

The Guardian
() is a single facet of a limited idea reflecting a gaze of terminal resignation.

Jónsi sure loves to sing "yooouuu ssaaalloooo" but why do I love it so much?

Seeing as I'm constantly looking for ways to procrastinate studying for class, I decided to re-review one of my favourite albums of all time: Sigur Rós's untitled album, or ( ). This monolith of a project was released three years after their acclaimed sophomore album "Ágætis byrjun", which saw them explode into stardom among the alternative crowds and gain notoriety among ... read more

Unfortunately, I've never really taken to Sigur Ros's brand of post-rock, and even though I respect the band's determination and patience in constructing their songs, I honestly don't find their material to be all that compelling. Even though they are quite a unique band in appearance (as they sing in their native Icelandic and occasionally in their "made-up" language), the elements that they assemble in making their songs are not all that unique. Especially within the ... read more

Genuine question how do I go about saying the name of this album? Like when I'm talking about it do I just say like brackets or do I say something else answers would be appreciated. And also thank you to @ELIJAH23457843 for the recommendation! So I've had this album in my recommendations list for quite a while now and it always stood out to me as one I've particularly wanted to listen to. From a lot of people I've heard really great things about sigur rós and their music which has always ... read more

Headphones on, press play, ascend. You transcend. Time. Space. Consciousness. Your physical form melts and you become as one with the Earth. All because some chaps from Iceland played glacial meditations and managed to show you geographic serenity through manipulation of sound waves... and not with weird and whacky synths and sonic wave bending manipulation either... they played guitars, drums, bass and added some strings.... It's just that their fractal minimalism when bound together ... read more

Huge thanks to @Thetawaves for the recommendation!

Wow... I'm honestly speechless. Throughout the entire album, I felt completely overwhelmed by this dreamy and beautiful atmosphere.

This is such an atmospheric album. It's so beautiful and crushing. I throw this on when it's late at night, not tired enough to fall asleep, but too tired to do anything.
