Solid album overall, but not the kind with big stand-out tracks. I'd also hesitate to call it a 'good time', with its themes of a democracy seized by oligarchs, and the pitfalls you're no doubt aware that it brings. Still, I enjoyed it; especially "The Wasteland". It's worth a listen, though I'd sooner recommend Anarchy to those unfamiliar with the greater Chumbawamba discography.
Out of the 7 Boingo albums, I'd probably rate this one near the middle. There's some career highlights on Nothing to Fear, like "Insects" and "Private Life", but I'd also say that "Running On A Treadmill" is in their bottom 5 songs (not counting joke songs like "Cry of the Vatos" or "Tender Lumplings")
I'll have to see how it fares against Good For Your Soul, the album that sounds the most like this one.
I'm not entirely certain what to say. I knew going in that this album had a bad reputation among fans, but this was one of the Killing Joke albums I clicked with the fastest. Maybe I just like poppier stuff from these guys, but I really liked "America", "My Love Of This Land" and "Obsession". Oh well, maybe fans not wanting it will make this one easier to find secondhand.
A bit better than I remembered. I tend to like the more "fun" Foetus tracks, be it something catchy like "Is That A Line", or with amusing lyrics like "Today I Started Slogging Again", so tracks like "Pratheism" or "Cosmetics" do little for me here. However, I did enjoy the opener, "Danger Global Warming", the Halloween mashup and the cover of "Warm Leatherette.
I thought it was pretty charming, and liked everything but "Pre-Owned Heart" and "You Oughta Know". Funny thing, I heard "Something Else" on the radio some 15-16 years ago, and remembered every word of that chorus. Makes it an easy choice for album highlight.
