accompanied soundtrack to the world's collective descent into hell starting in 2020
Why this is never in the conversation of greatest post rock albums is indeed a question to be had.
Just finished relistening.
I honestly think they put in a good effort here, despite the album having very clearly been through production hell. I really like every actual song on here and I'd even say this might be them at their peak instrumentally. The reason Tool is my favorite metal band, is because every song in their catalog is distinctly memorable, and that's no different here. My issues with Fear Innoculum aren't the actual songs though. The interludes fuck up the pace ... read more
This is taking into account the non-LP tracks as well.

Unbelievable.

I should write something actually thoughtful here, since it's been like 4 months and I've hardly done anything on this site. Stratosphere is also, I think the first full album I've listened to in that time, and I felt I needed something like it to get me back not only into writing again, but music in general. And I really needed it, because I forgot how much I enjoyed doing it.
I don't really listen to much slowcore. I wouldn't even say ... read more
This is the most venomous and cold shit I've heard in my fucking life. There's no responding to this
I mean... it's head and shoulders above all other country I've heard.
I don't know if that says much since I think most country is pretty bad anyways, but this actually one of my favorite albums of all time. This thing is outside the fucking exosphere in comparison to the influx of liquid shite that is modern country. Huge breath of fresh air. It somehow manages to avoid most of the redundant, motor memory tropes of country music, and embrace the true soul of the genre. It has ... read more

Another all timer for me.
Fugazi, a band that is generally known for their loudness and abrasive instrumentation, takes a near 180 here. If you're familiar with their catalog prior to The Argument, you'd be surprised how mellow and experimental it sounds in contrast to their previous work. With thier heavier cuts (i.e. Epic Problem and Ex-Specator) used sparingly. However, I think this works in the albums benefit. The laid back—sort of somber nature gives such a beautiful sense of ... read more
I know all these high scores are probably getting redundant at this point, but I don't care.
The Mollusk is about as enjoyable as music gets for me. Despite being memed to hell and back, it's damn incredible. Being the album that inspired SpongeBob is really all you need to know to know what you're getting into. It's optimistic, goofy, kinda dumb, but in an endearing way. Also, I'm not lying when I say this is one of the cleanest, most well produced albums I've ... read more
I didn't think I would like loveless all that much getting into it. When I heard When You Sleep for the first time a couple years back, I didn't like how it sounded. I liked shoegaze, but I thought this track sounded like an over-exaggeration of the genre with the blasting guitars and super buried vocals. Anyways, now that I listened to the full thing front to back, I can can now gladly admit that I was a fucking idiot because the mix on this album is perfection. The soundscapes in feel like ... read more
