Everything coming out of this album feels pretentious as fuck. Its cover, vocal interpretation, that fake sense of soap-opera like drama, even the name of the album sounds cheap. If you don't really wan't to listen to his dull take on timeless classic 'You're the One that I Want', you won't be missing anything remarkable anyways.
I know it's amazingly executed and sounds like a quite well polished set of great indie pop pieces, the problem for me is that I don't feel the vibe at all. It doesn't chill me, Atlas doesn't actually make any impression on me, so it makes it hard to imagine that I'm gonna be listening to these songs again.
Yeah, it approaches the same idea of isolation and self-awareness from far too different points, and yet manages to keep it all together in a smooth listen. That's true, but what it makes this record so great are the actual songs on it. Drrpping Down, Heaven, How Long and obviously Looking for Someone are three of the most exciting, best delivered tracks we've heard so far this year. And that's it's quite an achievement for a debutant.
It's certainly not the conceptual artsy album it pretends to be, anyways is kinda enjoyable and really easy to listen. Denial is catchy and instant, Faith is so club ready, You Burn is as chill as sexy, Disclosure feels tropical and fresh, and Medicine Brush feels paranoid but in a interesting way.
