Everything I like about BOC while managing to still feel Experimental and forward thinking. Is it crazy to say that this is one of their best?
More of what you expect from the Twigs; which is to say this is very high quality 60s pop pastiche music. I can't help but want them to work back to the sounds they were covering on Everything Harmony (still my favorite Twigs record). There are a couple of highlights here, but I don't think its as consistent as A Dream Is All We Know.
I admire the ambition and drive behind this project. I was really hoping I'd love this due to how much I messed with the lead single WHERE THE HELL IS MY HUSBAND. My biggest issue mostly comes down to personal preference. I don't like how theater kid coded this is. There are so many parts that had me rolling my eyes, it is unapologetically cheesy. Probably should have picked that up from the album title.
There are some killer moments of production, and a few moments that got me feeling like Ye was back. But this ultimately is more of the same type of output he has been releasing this decade. Some good ideas that are woefully unfinished. I'm happy that Ye seems to be in a better place mentally (I hope this will last and we don't get more morally bankrupt outbursts), but this is ultimately an unfinished mess of a record.
Bland production, crapy lyrics, and frustrating content. This is almost a complete dud from Taylor
Great stuff from JID! Constantly impressed by his seemingly endless talent.
So I know this just came out. But this is as good as music gets. Quadeca might have made the album of the decade.
Fellas, is it legal to have a live album be your favorite record of the year?
Man. I really wanted to love this but it's not doing much for me. The best songs are Girl So Confusing and Guess but those have been out for months now. Some songs are pretty good, but most fall into the ok category or just bad. Pretty disappointing, but at least we still have the perfect og Brat.
This was handily one of my most anticipated releases of the year. Unfortunately, every single excellent song was released before the album came out. The singles are phenomenal, the rest of the tracks range from pretty good to just ok. Still a bop of an album. Didn't love it as much as I hoped.
Some fun songs for sure, but this whole project is brought down by Jack Antonoff. It's getting hard for me to defend the guy. Yes, Melodrama and Ocean Boulevard are phenomenal. But man, he can't stop dropping mid uninspired 80s crap.
