The BoC album I've listened to the most by default of owning it on CD back in the day. Nothing super creepy on here, but more beautiful and subdued and hazy and nostalgic. Quite long and has a few unmemorable tracks, but those are minor nitpicks. Love the way the final track still keeps playing at a barely audible volume in the last half, that used to freak me out in a strange way, but I grew to find it calming. Lush album.
Banging. Abstract in an accessible way, hypnotically groovy, warm yet eerie, ambitious and sumptuous. Missed these guys.
I don't really get Gorillaz musically, I love the aesthetics and story behind it all, but most of their music bores me to tears. There's some bangers on here, such as 'Damascus', and that final track is effectively affecting. But I just find myself struggling to connect with most of it, a lot of cool elements that I like that just don't come together to form interesting songs.
For the first six tracks or so I was like "This is great! These are all bangers!" But then nothing changes, the majority of the songs are just sketches with no progression or variety, and they just keep going. If these songs were filled out, like 'LOVE YOU LESS' is, this could have been so good. As it is, it's a bit of an endurance test.
