Swans - The Beggar
77

This album drags a sweaty man on an air track in the second half but I do feel like the vibe Swans goes for on this album is consistent. It has a strong ominous opener and I thankfully didn't leave feeling nothing

Underscores and Dance-pop is a match made in heaven. Never did I think a guitar create this snappy a beat. Infusing it with Pharell/Timbaland style production and my ass has not been in my seat since I got out of bed

Other than the mixing being "in balance" at best, this opening has solely made me wanna rewatch this crack dream of a show

Maruja - Pain to Power

I'm actually fucking speechless

From EP to EP to finally their first full length studio album, Maruja has delivered, so far, my number one album of the year, by a significant mile.

The progression of this album is so smooth I barely realized I was on the last song, when I was checking the track list. It starts with a bang so large, Bonnie Blue would be impressed by it, and ends with such a beautiful sign off that delivers by not trying to out perform any previous tracks.

The album has ... read more

From the first song, I felt myself to succumb to this albums super stylized production. The very sporatic instrumentals and high frequenzy noise utilization scratches so many weird itches for me. Brakence truly has a great feel for ear candy and his melodies have been stuck in my head for the past week or so. It's as if the dopamine center in your brain is getting massaged while listening.

Also, Musicians that tend to stick glitchy elements on their tracks, such as Iglooghost, fits under ... read more

If "Hacker" by Death Grips became a full length album

This is by far the most straightforward I've seen Clipping. do an album. The songs don't feel as cinematic as their previous albums have managed to do but I feel it works with the tech theme overall. The closer is by far the best one they've had in my opinion and, while I think people will have mixed opinions on it, I personally find Daveed's varied vocal delivery on this album very good

Deftones - Around the Fur
87

The first album I heard from Deftones. Tbh I never understood the whole deal about them sounding like a moaning symphony of metal. At the time, the impression I got from Around The Fur, was just alt rock with screamo but after listening to more of their discography I see why I didn't make the connection at first.

While it still has hints of shoegaze in songs like "Be quiet and drive" and the typical orgasmic vocal performance we love Chino for on certain tracks, the album still ... read more

Maroon 5 - Songs About Jane

I was fresh off a concert with these guys in Las Vegas, when I decided to say fuck it, as I was pestered persistently by my dad that I'm too harsh on their music, and decided to go hear the first album for myself as it was the best received.

The very first thing I wanna say is, the show was definitely a motivating factor to this impulse. My expectations were no where to be found as I was walking through The Strip to Dolby Live where we would go to see them. The least I expected was to be ... read more

Number 1 album to listen to while driving in rainy weather at night

Might've just been the setting I was in, but this is one of the few times I felt sad that an album was over when it did. Not that it felt unfinished or unsatisfying, quite the opposite, I just felt so drawn in by it that I didn't realize it was over when it was and I, in fact, never wanted it to end.

Like singing a lullaby to a child, this felt like an album made to comfort who ever decided to listen to it. Wrapping ... read more

Porter Robinson - SMILE! :D

This is a case of "fun without much substance".

I realized when listening to the other singles that it wouldn't be very cohesive, which is fine, but even so my attention wasn't massively caught either.

Cheerleader is probably one of my songs of the year, with how powerfully produced and cleverly structured it is, but it also stands so heavily out from the rest of these tracks that it almost feels misplaced. This means, the album felt less like an album and more like a ... read more

After finishing the game, I have to say...

my opinion on this OST has not changed, which shows that this is just as good as a stand-alone album

Ok calm down Anthony, this album is not that bad...

Lupe Fiasco - Samurai
100

Fuck... this was great honestly

Lupe pulls through with outstanding beats and verses on this one. It's previously been an issue for me to find anything really remarkable about Lupe's production but I'm beyond impressed with the genre fusions on this.

However, fuck this guy for the phone sound effects scattered around the album. I damn near drove down the wrong side of the road because of the alarm on 'Mumble Rap'

The perfect example of simplicity resulting in one of the modt beautiful pieces of music I've heard to date. Something feels like it's blossoming through the song which is so perfectally encapsulated in the mix. The instrumental perfectally switches between explosive and soft, especially with the guitar effects, and that creates this smoothly transitioning feeling to something greater with each step. Speaking of smooth, Skye's vocals are so tender yet powerful even when they're not hitting high ... read more

This hits harder when you're laying in bed at 3:00 am

Even though I'm not the biggest rage fan, I will say, once you fall in the vibe with this one the album actually flies by. That makes it both fun and sadly a little forgettable as I can't recall many highlights. Regardless, "I don't like people" will stay on my playlist for a bit :3
