Djo - DECIDE

This project feels like a mix of Daft Punk and The Cars to me, as odd of a pairing that may sound initially. Djo clearly knows and appreciates his synthpop and all of its offspring. The Tiktok fueled "End of Beginning" stands out as the high point with "On and On" and "Change" not too far below. The rest of the track list is populated with enjoyable but not overly remarkable bits of synth driven, semi 80's throwback songs. When listening to this project, one song kept sticking out to me as a clear inspiration from one of the aforementioned artists; "Instant Crush" by Daft Punk feat. Julian Casablancas off of "Random Access Memories". My favorite song off the album and a song I consider to be technically near perfect, it feels like Djo is trying to base his sound off of that song in particular. While his instrumentation and vocals are good, they fail to reach the height of "Instant Crush". While no means bad and not something I would ask someone to skip if it was playing, I find this to be something I wouldn't actively seek out either.
