I can't say we disliked the album. There's certainly lots of energy. But in our humble opinion, maybe this is an example of a band's strength becoming its weakness as you progress through the 13 songs. After about 5 cuts, we grew a bit weary of the pace, the instrumentation, and the vocals. By song 7, it sorta got annoying as the songs tended to morph into clones. By song 8, our attention felt forced to finish, and none of us have ADD. Keep in mind, like visuals, sound is in the ear of the ... read more
We [digitalearbuds.blogspot.com] first fell in love with REWS when Shauna Tohill and Collette Williams released the single, "Shake Shake." Man, that was good ~ still is. The duo stayed together for about four years and released "Pyro" in 2017 (UK); 2019 (US). Then, what the heck? Collette decided to leave the duo. Keeping the name REWS, Shauna continued on and released her sophomore album in August 2020, and all know how those follow-up albums can be a let-down. Rest ... read more
It's "Memphis" that caught my attention. I'm writing this in 2020, and I consider this one of those "Ones You Have Missed" from 2019. This is a fun 5-song EP that slides across your earbuds like sweet tea over your taste buds. Sweet, smooth, and refreshing. "Distraction" is kinda like it's name. It moved the needle a bit too far on the pop scale for my taste. Same for the fifth and final cut, "Friday's No Fun Anymore". My future spins of the EP will ... read more
The Norwegian band, Slotface has been on our radar ever since their October 2019 announcement regarding the release of their new album, "Sorry For The Late Reply". The Pop/Punk band's 2017 album, "Try Not To Freak Out" was a good indication that this band had more to offer. And they don't disappoint. Vocalist, Haley Shea, can go punk on you, but smooths out the edges in several songs. This gives the album a nice pop/rock, indie/rock, pop/punk feel. Now that may sound ... read more
Never been a big Halsey listener, but since Ashley Nicolette Frangipane was one of the first artists to drop an album in 2020, I put the earbuds in and gave her new album "Maniac" a solid spin. There can't be too much debate about this woman's vocals. Call them unique. For me that's what captured my attention, and more importantly, held it throughout the entire 16 song experience. There's a lot of emotional lyrics in "Maniac," and I'm sure someone will do the honors of going ... read more
