Kendrick Lamar - C4

This album mostly depends on whether you fuck with Kendricks wierd rapping or not. For whatever reason, Kendrick decides to approach this mixtape by rapping hysterically for the whole thing. I got used to it after the first track and enjoyed the album overall. The instrumentals are all sampled from Lil Wayne's album so they're all fire and in the end it creates an enjoyable mixtape. Nice. Peace.

J. Cole - The Come Up Mixtape Vol. 1

This is a banging first mixtape to put out as an aspiring rapper. The skill J. Cole shows in his lyricism throughout is top class. It's just bar after bar and it's also worth noting that a lot of his instrumentals were produced by himself, which is also impressive. Plenty of bangers throughout. This is definitely worth the listen.

Kendrick Lamar - Training Day

Kendricks 2nd mixtape that, in my opinion, aged terribly. The quality is very similar to the first mixtape and Kendrick continues to produce pretty good lyrics that attempt to highlight his ambition and skill as a rapper, but this is not the conscious rapper we know at his best, and he doesn't tend to do much creatively with the instrumentals he uses, which are also quite mediocre for the most part. The aspect that drags this mixtape down the most is probably the length of it. 25 tracks (5 ... read more

Kendrick Lamar - Y.N.I.C.

Kendricks first mixtape. It's good for a 16 year old. The lyrics are pretty good throughout but you can tell Kendrick hasn't found his style yet. He sounds like a rapper impersonating others. Just a regular MC spitting on the mic that they'rethe best. It's not bad but it's just a bit unremarkable, and it usually means each track will be heavily dependant on the instrumentals. The majority weren't bad, but they weren't very good either. Overall, the mixtape isn't actually that bad, but it's just ... read more

Future - WE DON'T TRUST YOU

It doesn't get much more bland in the mainstream than Future. If he truly represented the future then I would have killed myself already. Future raps about money, drugs and pussy, and rarely ventures outside of this unless he's trying to sneak diss other people. He has the same flow for the majority of the 17 tracks. Travis' verse alone was better than the entire album. Moving onto metro, his instrumentals were pretty decent, but they are severely affected by Futures boring rapping which makes ... read more
